POSITION SUMMARY:

Advises undergraduate students in academic program planning; provides and obtains factual information with respect to registration in courses; assists students having academic difficulties; makes appropriate referrals. Closely partners with program directors and faculty steering committees.

The Multidisciplinary Studies Center operates under the umbrella of the Dean’s office with the Associate Dean of The College serving as the Center’s director. The Center serves as a resource both for students and for faculty and supports academic programs, both undergraduate and graduate, that do not fall neatly within one of the Rochester curriculum’s three divisional areas (humanities, social sciences, natural sciences).

RESPONSIBILITIES AND JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Under general direction with latitude for independent judgment:

Advising (51%):

  • Provides information and interpretation of college and departmental requirements.

  • Refers students to faculty or other offices for specialized help when appropriate.

  • Advises probation students in course planning and monitors progress of academic achievement.

  • Maintains general advising walk-in hours and appointments.

  • Advises undergraduate students in academic program planning in various MSC academic programs.

  • Directs the online declaration process for the academic programs listed above. Each program manages the online declaration process differently. Requires knowledge of individual program and program structure.

  • Monitors student progress as students work toward degree completion. Manages students’ Academic Progress (aka degree audits) and ensures College receives relevant updates.

  • Member of University-wide committees, such as but not limited to: Academic Open House and recruiting programs.

Curriculum and Faculty (34%)

  • Assists in process to request curriculum changes and updates; provides timely feedback to program directors and faculty committees. Collaborates with academic departments, the College Deans’ office and the College Curriculum Committee to implement all necessary changes.

  • Serves as an academic and program resource for faculty.

  • Attend and successfully complete university-provided training and professional development.

Office Responsibilities (15%)

  • Maintain tracking of expenses and assume financial oversight of program budgets

  • Acquired proficiency in different UR systems - UR Financials, Student Employment, and other related systems

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate will have leadership skills, excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, a willingness to initiate or take on new and challenging assignments, and a spirit of cooperation among colleagues and constituents. Bachelor’s degree with one year related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
