Adjunct Instructor of Statistics

The University of Rochester’s Statistics and Data Science programs seek applications for the position of an adjunct instructor. We are looking for a candidate with a passion for teaching and statistical computing. A successful candidate will be expected to have strong teaching skills and to demonstrate a thoughtful approach to statistical pedagogy. This position is for the spring 2021 semester (January - May 2021)

Duties and Responsibilities: This is an instructional position. Teaching load will include one intermediate statistics course for data scientists and computer scientists, focusing on regression models, classification, and unsupervised learning techniques, with computations being performed in R. The course is expected to have an enrollment of about 120 students (100 undergraduates, 20 graduates). There will be an expectation to also advise teaching assistants for the course who generally will hold office hours, assist with grading, and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Ph.D. in Statistics, Biostatistics, Data Science, or a related field. Expertise and professional experience in regression modeling, ANOVA, machine learning techniques, classification, clustering, principal component analysis, model selection, and non-linear models is preferred. Experience with the statistical computing environment R is required.
