Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY :

The Laboratory for Laser Energetics (LLE) of the University of Rochester is a unique national resource for research in science and technology focusing on using lasers to initiate high energy density physics conditions. LLE is currently seeking an Operational Group Leader to join the Facility Operations team in managing the Omega 60 and Omega EP laser facility Amplifiers and Cleanroom Control group.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Group Leader- supervision of 12 staff, a mix of engineers and technicians

  • Group Leader- preparation and management of annual operating budget for equipment and supplies

  • Complete training as an amplifier technician and support shot operations in this capacity

  • Complete training and certification for cleanroom management

  • Manage a team of amplifier operators staff including shift assignment, maintenance oversight, consumables procurement, maintenance contract management, and contractor scheduling.

  • Monitor and analyze existing performance metrics

  • Develop new metrics focused on increasing system reliability and efficiency

  • Qualify as Shot Director, the senior crew member responsible for overseeing the safe and efficient operation of the facility and interfacing with scientists performing experiments on the system

  • Prepare reports and presentations communicating current system performance and capability

  • Author and review procedures for shot and maintenance operations

  • Work with engineering staff to develop tools and utilities necessary for efficient operations.

    QUALIFICATIONS :

  • B.S. Degree in Physical Science, Engineering, Management, or similar

  • 5 years technical work experience

  • Proficient with MSOffice Suite

  • High reliability and attention to detail

  • Strong communication skills suitable for leading a team-based environment

  • An ideal candidate would additionally possess one or more of the following:

  • Experience with laser amplifier systems operation and design

  • Experience with precision cleaning systems and performance measurement

  • Experience in cleanroom protocol and/or cleanroom certification

    • Experience with statistical analysis
  • Experience in managing projects/budgets
