ResponsibilitiesGeneral Purpose:
The Assistant Director for Student Activities and Engagement works closely with the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs to assist, advise, and serve as a resource for students and recognized student organizations. This position creates, coordinates, and manages school-initiated on- and off-campus programs and activities for and with students.
Responsibilities:
Undergrad student organizations:
Advises recognized undergraduate student organizations to assist with their programming
Assists new student groups and organizations with navigating the process to become recognized
Co-advises (with the Asst. Dean of Student Affairs) the Eastman Students’ Association student leadership team to provide guidance and advice
Co-advises (with the Asst. Dean of Student Affairs) the Graduate Students’ Association to support their event planning and programming
Co-advises (with the Asst. Dean of Student Affairs) Eastman undergraduate and graduate students' associations and recognized student organizations
Assists and advises students in planning and managing larger monthly traditional, annual, community building events such as Welcome Weekend, Spooktacular, Winter Ball, Spring Fling, and Senior Week
Campus Event Planning
Develops and plans, with and for students, smaller regularly occurring on- and off-campus events throughout the academic year
Oversees and manages the annual Special Events, including but not limited to event development, planning, and management, online registration, communications, publicity, and promotions
Works with Asst. Dean of Student Affairs and Office for Residential Life to provide programming for Summer @ Eastman students
Provides on-site supervision of events and activities, occasionally during evenings and weekends
Serves as a resource for creative programming, promotion, and publicity ideas
Daily Student/Res Life Operations
Participates in the on-call rotation with the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs and Assistant Director for Residential Life
Assists and supports the routine and daily operations of the Office for Student Activities and Engagement
Works with the Asst. Dean of Student Affairs in the management of student activity fee finances and the annual budgeting process
Works with the Asst. Dean of Student Affairs on program-related expenditures and revenue, and assists in overseeing departmental expenditures and revenues
Produces reports, conducts program evaluations, and analyzes data and trends within program areas
Communications
Conducts research and assessments on student activities and programs and is aware of program information and changing needs
Updates and maintains departmental online presence and print materials, including but not limited to website content, social media outlets, and newsletters
Leadership and Engagement
Assists in developing and presenting content for the annual student leadership training for student leaders
Facilitates the Undergraduate and Graduate Students' Association elections each spring
Engages students and student leaders in the creation, planning, execution, and promotion of school-initiated programs and activities that are social, educational, cultural, and recreational, with an emphasis on leadership development
Encourages community engagement, promotes collaboration and involvement, and builds community on campus
Serves as a resource to, and provides comprehensive direction, support, and guidance for, student leaders in planning co-curricular programs, projects, events, and initiatives such as social and recreational activities, diversity programs, and community and traditional celebrations
Develops relationships with, and serves as a liaison to, other University colleagues and departments
Coordinates with staff members in the implementation of The CARE Network at Eastman
Represents Eastman Student Activities in various meeting groups, including but not limited to:
Eastman Student Support Team (SST)
Eastman Dining Committee
Susan B. Anthony Women's Leadership Awards
Student Life Leadership Awards
Actively seeks out and participates in webinars, conferences, and other opportunities for professional development
Performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in higher education, student affairs, counseling or related field required
Master’s Degree preferred
Prior experience with event-planning, implementing and assessing student programs and two or more years professional work experience in student affairs or residence life required
Excellent verbal and written communication required
Intermediate level knowledge with Microsoft Excel, Outlook Word required
