Responsibilities

The Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure Assistant Professor of Opera, beginning 1 July 2022. The successful candidate will be a proven stage director who will be dedicated to teaching in a robust training program for young singers. The ideal candidate will have directed in all forms of lyric theater (contemporary opera, traditional opera, and music theater).

The Assistant Professor of Opera is responsible for one fully staged Eastman Opera Theatre production per season and for teaching curricular performance techniques courses. The contract carries an initial term of three years and may be renewable. Salary will be commensurate with experience. Residency in Rochester is required.

Applicants must demonstrate success in directing university-level or professional singer-actors in staged scenes and full productions. Expectations include a deep commitment to mentoring students in their professional development and broadening engagement among members of underrepresented groups.
