Responsibilities
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Rochester (URMC) School of Medicine & Dentistry, in Rochester, NY, is currently recruiting a GI pathologist; opportunity for additional subspecialty coverage is available for interested candidates. Successful applicants must be board-eligible in anatomic pathology by the American Board of Pathology and be eligible for a medical license in the State of New York.
The Department provides a very wide range of services, currently accessioning over 95,000 surgical/biopsy cases per year. More than 35 anatomic pathologists participate in a fully subspecialized sign out model. The GI service is the Department’s busiest, completing approximately one third of the volume. The clinical work encompasses the breadth of the gastrointestinal system, including support of the foregut, pancreas, transplant and colorectal surgical divisions, as well as busy Barrett’s and IBD gastroenterology programs.
The successful applicant will be expected to participate in a program in applied, translational, or basic research. The Medical Center has a highly collegial environment. There are multiple opportunities for collaborative research and for the development of clinical initiatives through interactions with Medical Center faculty.
Opportunities for teaching are ample: we have ACGME-accredited fellowships in cytology, pediatric pathology, dermatopathology, forensic and molecular pathology; and non-ACGME-accredited subspecialty fellowship positions in surgical pathology, including GI, as well rotating pathology residents and medical students.
