The Associate Dean for Equity and Inclusion will be responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating a comprehensive approach to address and monitor issues/needs related to diversity, equity and inclusiveness for faculty, staff and students. This individual will also help identify community collaborations to support/enhance our diversity agenda that span our education, practice and research missions and provide leadership in those areas. This position includes involvement with faculty activities in research, practice, and/or education, as negotiated. The Associate Dean serves as a member of the SON senior leadership team and reports directly to the Dean.
The Associate Dean for Equity and Inclusion will serve with the SON senior leadership team and lead strategic diversity efforts that advance the SON’s mission and vision; collaborating with key URMC and University constituencies to develop and carry out initiatives that contribute to the achievement of diversity goals; contribute to the recruitment, retention and career goals of faculty, post-doctoral fellows, staff and students from underrepresented groups; and support the overarching goals of SON faculty, staff and students to enhance the SON programs for diversity and health equity.

Provides strategic leadership enhancing our vision for diversity, equity and inclusion in the SON and communicating this vision to SON leaders, faculty, staff and students.
Facilitates new initiatives and activities in partnership with the Dean and Council for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (CoDEI) that foster an environment of cultural equity and inclusion.
Coaches SON leaders in ways to improve and sustain a diverse and inclusive environment.
Leads the DEI agenda with oversight for all aspects of the SON’s diversity activities, including planning, implementing and evaluating goals related to diversity and inclusion.
Collaborates with leadership and colleagues within the University, as well as nationally and internationally to inform the direction of the diversity agenda for the School of Nursing.
Develops and implements strategic initiatives, procedures, proposals, and programs to ensure overall coordination and direction of diversity programs at SON, including development and maintenance of the SON Diversity Metrics and Diversity Progress reports.
Maximizes data collection, analysis, and knowledge of regulatory compliance.
Monitors and evaluates programmatic effectiveness through quantitative, qualitative and other methods and implements changes required for improvement.
Develops and integrates DEI concepts into all of our missions
Serves as a member of selected SON Standing Committees, e.g. Council of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Student Affairs Committee, Curriculum Committee
Provides support and mentoring for the SON Diversity Officers (Faculty, Staff, Student)
Develops a comprehensive mentoring program to support the retention of faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds.
Provides consultation to Associate Dean for Education and Student Affairs, the Director of the Office of Admissions and Enrollment Management and Director of Student Affairs to facilitate the recruitment and retention of a diverse student body.
Collaborates with the University Office of Equity and Inclusion and the Sr. Associate Dean for Equity and Inclusion at SMD to provide educational and leadership development opportunities in DEI initiatives for SON faculty, staff and students.
Work in partnership with UMRC Nursing Practice Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion to plan educational initiatives that support our students and their transition to practice.
Builds a diverse, culturally-informed academic environment through direct educational efforts, curricular representation, and a focus on compositional diversity, climate, curriculum, and culturally and linguistically appropriate services.
Recommends and co-sponsors educational experiences, curricular and co-curricular, that foster faculty and learner education in diversity, cultural and linguistic competency, health equity, implicit bias and multi-cultural instruction.
Partners with the SON academic program directors to organize regional and national meetings/recruitment events for students from underrepresented groups.
Oversees unconscious bias education for all search committees and admissions committees
Contributes to the ongoing development and implementation of a school-wide holistic admission processes.
Works collaboratively with SON and URMC leaders, and Diversity Councils/Committees to advance the institution’s commitment to the recruitment, retention and career advancement of a diverse academic workforce.
Serves as a resource to support SON program-level initiatives to recruit, retain and advance faculty, students, and post-doctoral fellows from underrepresented groups.
Works closely with Dean, Associate Deans, faculty, staff, administrators, and search committees, providing effective strategies for identifying candidates with a diverse background and addressing bias in the screening and selection process
Drives workforce diversity among faculty through collaboration with SON and URMC leadership to coordinate and evaluate programs to attract, retain, and promote the success of those underrepresented in nursing/healthcare/research.
Creates career pathways to foster the development and leadership potential of individuals from underrepresented groups.
In collaboration with CoDEI, prepares and provides annual reports to the Dean, the URMC CEO and the University Vice President/Chief Diversity Officer that includes diversity initiatives, demographic trends and objective outcomes, strategic goals, and future plans.
Provides leadership for submission of awards that focus on diversity/equity/inclusion, e.g. annual HEED award.
COMMUNICATION AND VISIBILITY
Represents University of Rochester School of Nursing at regional, state, national and international levels to promote SON’s diversity agenda.
Demonstrates and generates enthusiasm for faculty representing the SON in the community to facilitate new funding opportunities for DEI development.
Serves as the liaison to external funding agencies and community entities that further the school's diversity agenda.
Possesses outstanding interpersonal skills, integrity, warmth, good humor, and a high level of energy and commitment, in a way that inspires, harnesses, and celebrates the success of others.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Doctoral preparation, nursing preferred
Qualifications for an associate professor/professor rank in either the clinical or tenure track.
Knowledge and experience with state or federal funding sources and review processes.
Ability to reach wide range of audiences and bring scholars from diverse backgrounds together.
Demonstrated commitment to equity in gender, race, ethnicity, and sexual orientation, with attention to the needs of diverse faculty, staff, and students.
Evidence of a collaborative, action-oriented and transparent leadership style; strong interpersonal skills; and excellent written and oral communications
Demonstrate strong planning and administrative skills to execute and evaluate DEI programs.
Demonstrate ability to collaborate with and advise faculty and learners from all backgrounds and especially those underrepresented in nursing and healthcare.
Evidence of a scholarly program in the field of DEI
Proven leadership in areas such as, recruitment, retention and advancement of faculty, learners and staff from diverse backgrounds
