Responsibilities

Position Summary:

The Assistant Dean of Students oversees the Office of Student Engagement (OSE), as well as the Office of Executive & Professional Programs. Reporting to and working in close collaboration with the Associate Dean of Full-Time Programs, the Assistant Dean provides strategic direction to the OSE Team to ensure that the OSE provides the highest level of service to our students to empower them to reach their goals. The OSE provides strategic and career-focused academic advising, proactive student life management and advising, and support to all students in efforts to improve and enhance the overall student experience. The Assistant Dean ensures that students are treated fairly, ethically, respectfully, and with compassion, values an open door policy and timely communication, and is a dynamic and caring leader who bolsters the overall Simon Community.

Responsibilities:

The Assistant Dean serves as a senior member of the School’s administration, and leads a team which has a significant impact on the student experience and student satisfaction. In addition, the Assistant Dean leads the Office of Executive & Professional Programs, which oversees several key programs at the School. The Assistant Dean works in close collaboration with faculty, staff colleagues, and in particular, the Admissions and Benet Career Management Center leaders. The Assistant Dean reports to the Associate Dean of Full-Time Programs. The ability to work co-operatively with all stakeholders of the Simon school is a key requirement.

More specifically, the Assistant Dean provides oversight in the following areas:

Student Life

Oversees the Student Life team responsible for enhancing the overall student experience of our full-time MBA and MS students through specialized and proactive programming and providing holistic support. This includes work on extra and co-curricular activities, clubs, special events, guest lectures, community engagement and social impact, and the social side of the Simon experience. Working in close collaboration with the Benet Career Management Center team, the Assistant Dean leads OSE in the delivery of orientation, a winter kick-off event, and other key sessions to bolster the student experience. The Assistant Dean also takes a leading role in the integration of core values, including #SimonStrong, into the student culture.

The OSE runs school-wide student satisfaction surveys, often in conjunction with orientation, Pre-Fall completion, student organizations, and second year MBA 1:1 exit interviews, to continually assess areas of strength and ensure continual process improvement. In addition, the OSE works closely with Simon clubs and organizations to ensure best practices and quality deliverables. In collaboration with Diversity/Educational clubs and the Diversity & Inclusion Ambassadors, the OSE plans and supports D&I focused programming throughout the year. The OSE also support community service and engagement programs. In addition to advising various professional, diversity, educational, and athletic clubs, Student Life advises and works closely with the Simon Graduate Business Council, Consortium, and Forté boards.

Advising

Oversees the Advising Team for MBA and MS programs, who provide comprehensive support of the student experience through academic advising, coaching, and managing key academic progress processes. This includes execution of the annual process for advising, managing the cohort classroom experience, and managing individual student issues and concerns. The Assistant Dean also provides feedback to administration about systemic issues. Finally, the Assistant Dean leads the OSE in working in close collaboration with the Benet Center team on Career Action Teams. The Office also assists students with immigration-related needs and forms processing related to OPT, CPT, and other F1 status regulations.

Experiential Learning

Oversees the Experiential Learning team as it further develops existing initiatives, improves student experiences and processes, creates and develops partnerships with University and non-University entities, and creates new opportunities for all students. This includes sourcing high quality projects, creating and supporting immersions, and providing high quality support to students in internal and external case competitions. The team also creates and facilitates student programming around teamwork, leadership, problem solving, ethics, global awareness and communication.

Executive & Professional Programs

Oversees the Executive and Professional Programs organization, which supports Part-time MBA (including non-matriculated students), MS Medical Management (includes those who completed their projects in the Winter quarter), and Executive MBA students. Part of the team is also responsible for UBS MS Wealth Management students and ROC-Bern EMBA students. The organization is uniquely structured to recruit, onboard, advise and support students, and to maintain those relationships following graduation. The Assistant Dean will place particular emphasis on the recruitment of students, and will work in close collaboration with other members of the senior management team to identify and build new programs at the School.
