Responsibilities

The Margaret Warner Graduate School of Education and Human Development’s Teaching and Curriculum Program invites applications for a part-time clinical-track position in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education at the assistant professor rank, starting with the academic year 2020-2021. Primary responsibilities for this position include: (1) teaching master’s level courses in the Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education programs, and possibly teaching other foundation courses in our graduate teacher education programs; and (2) coordinating the Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education teacher education programs, which includes advising teacher candidates seeking NYS certification in those areas, coordinating clinical supervision of teacher candidates in the field, and maintaining program evaluation and accreditation documentation. The successful applicant also will be expected to engage in clinical scholarship and participate in professional service.

Applicants are expected to have a background in teacher education, with specializations in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education, as well as P-12 teaching experience in those areas. Preferred applicants will have: (1) an earned doctorate, or a completed doctorate by the start date, in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, and/or a related field; (2) experience working with students from various backgrounds, including different cultural and linguistic backgrounds and those with additional educational needs; and (3) experience with program accreditation and state certification policies and procedures, including the edTPA. It would be desirable for the applicant to be able to supervise doctoral dissertations, which requires experience with a variety of research methodologies, including action research.

While the advertised position requires effort equivalent to a minimum of 50% of a full-time faculty position, the recipient will be welcome and supported to seek other responsibilities or sources of additional funding not to exceed the equivalent of an additional 50% effort, for a maximum possible effort of 100% of a full-time faculty position.

The Teaching and Curriculum Program, within which this position is nested, offers master’s and doctoral degree programs as well as programs that lead to NYS teacher certification at the initial and professional levels. All these programs emphasize a social, historical, and contextual approach to education that is rooted in an interdisciplinary perspective, and build on the integration of theory and practice. The position requires a commitment to teacher education, equity, and excellence.
