Central Services OR Liaison

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Under the direction of the Central Services (CS) Department leadership team, the OR Liaison is responsible for coordinating the timely delivery of sterile instrumentation and supplies to the operating rooms. In conjunction with the CS Operations Manager and Supervisor, the OR Liaison develops and maintains a close working relationship with the operating room clinical teams to provide complete and timely resource support as well as troubleshooting any sterile processing related issues that may arise in real time. Acting as an extension of the central services team, the OR Liaison will also be required to undergo training and continuing competency of all central services functions including, but not limited to decontamination, assembly & inspection, and sterilization

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures completed case carts are accurate and moved to the designated Operating Rooms in a timely manner.

  • Forecasts designated service instrument and material needs in advanced. Coordinates and schedules instrument repairs and replacements to ensure pan and peel pouch accuracy.

  • Informs scheduling office when schedules must be rearranged to avoid conflicts rooted from instrument shortages or limitations.

  • Uses corresponding preference cards as a guideline to provide and adjust set-ups according to case details. Must identify errors and aid in correcting preference cards. Coordinates editing of preference cards through designated primary service nurse.

  • Assists central services with providing extra equipment to avoid IUSS occurrences between cases. Resolves instrument, equipment and supply conflicts with OR nursing and/or central services staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma / GED required. College diploma preferred required.

  • Three to five years direct experience in sterile processing, inventory control or in a perioperative setting with surgical instruments and supplies with in a hospital/clinical environment preferred

  • Strong knowledge of surgical instrumentation, supplies and equipment and its relationship to surgical procedures required

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft suite programs. (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) required

  • Strong ability to communicate, orally and in writing required.

  • Ability to proofread documents and check for accuracy required

  • If hired on or after January 1, 2014, candidate must pass a nationally accredited central service exam for central service technicians; and hold and maintain one of the following credentials administered by a nationally accredited central service technician credentialing organization within eighteen months of hire: certified registered central service technician credential; certified sterile processing and distribution technician credential; or a substantially equivalent credential required.

  • In addition, twelve CEU credits must be obtained annually. If hired on or before December 31, 2013, ten CEU credits must be obtained annually.
