Clinical Lab Supt Tech III - Immunohistochemistry

Responsibilities

POSITION SUMARY :

Under the supervision of the Immunohistochemistry (IHC) Supervisor, the Laboratory Support Tech will perform technical and non-technical, pre and post analytical support activities. Activities include slide management, record keeping, quality assurance, pH of buffers, chemical maintenance, computer documentation, and general laboratory maintenance/inventory coordination.

SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION RECEIVED:

Under the direct supervision of the IHC Supervisor, but may receive direction from other technical supervisors in Surgical Pathology.

MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT USED:

Standard office equipment such as telephone, PCs, Laboratory Information System (LIS), Hospital Information Systems, Microsoft Office. Familiarity with laboratory equipment such as microwave, stainer, cover slipper, pH meter, chemical reagents, glassware, measuring devices and other equipment similar in scope and complexity.

TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES :

  1. Checks inventory of control tissue slides in IHC and histology laboratories. Reports to technicians when tissue is low. Produces control slides, when appropriate. 10%

  2. Maintains chemical solutions and records maintenance per regulatory guidelines. 10%

  3. Maintains staining instruments per manufacturer’s guidelines and disposes of waste as appropriate. 15%

  4. Organizes and triages slides in preparation for delivery to pathologists, including verification of patient information. Delivers slides to pathologists. 15%

  5. Files unstained slides in numerical order. Assists in pulling slides for staining when requested by pathologist. 10%

  6. Assists in record-keeping related to temperature monitoring, maintenance, QA, pH of reagents, inventory of reagents, and validations. 15%

  7. Pulls archived tissue blocks when necessary. Maintains record of blocks or slides pulled. 10%

  8. Participates in slide scanning responsibilities. 5%

  9. Performs other activities as requested. 10%

REQUIREMENTS :

Associate degree in a related science with course work in Biology, Chemistry, Anatomy, and Physiology; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Laboratory experience is preferred.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $18.67 - $25.20

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
