CT Tech, MSU Per Diem

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Performs computed tomography (CT) exams by following and verifying referring providers’ orders and remaining in compliance with the department of Neurosurgery and all governing bodies. This is a per diem role on the Mobile Stroke Unit.

With minimal supervision and independent operation when on the Mobile Stroke Unit, is responsible for performing I-stats, pregnancy tests, starting IV’s, scanning patients in a safe and efficient manner, Injecting IV contrast, preparing oral contrast, completing all associated paperwork and computer work, and discharging the patient from the Mobile Stroke Unit. Additional duties may include working on special projects, such as new equipment evaluations and assisting in the design of areas where clinical equipment will be installed, or assignment to departmental and prehospital committees.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Identifies patient service requirements. Applies learned methodologies according to established policy and procedures

  2. Prepares, monitors, evaluates and powers up mobile CT equipment for use on the MSU at start of day. Powers down and ensures appropriate overnight CT power enabled at end of day. Communicates any malfunctions or concerns with clinical engineering. Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements. Troubleshoots and notifies appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance

  3. Educates patients/families regarding procedure and/or treatment to be performed.

  4. Prepares patient for radiological/CT procedures by positioning patient; adjusting immobilization devices; moves equipment into specified position; adjusts equipment controls to set exposure factors.

  5. Performs procedures by following and verifying referring provider’s orders. Prepares and maintains accurate documentation. Maintains production and quality of CT images by following established standards, orders, protocols and procedures

  6. Produces high quality images and prepares/presents them with other pertinent patient information necessary for diagnosis and treatment of stroke while on the MSU, for timely interpretation.

  7. Practices radiation protection techniques (ALARA), using beam restrictive devices, patient shielding, and knowledge of exposure factors and automatic exposure controls.

  8. Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors. Adheres to safety policies.

  9. At an advanced level, may train new employees or lead day to day work activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of formal training in an approved School of Radiologic Technology required

  • Minimum of 18 months of progressively responsible professional work experience as a specialist in Computed Tomography in a clinical or hospital environment with at least 6 months dedicated to the URMC required

  • or equivalent combination of education and experience required

  • Capable of performing all CT related duties required.

  • Maintains current NYS licensure and ARRT certification with CE credits as required.

  • Certification in Computed Tomography preferred.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $34.42 - $48.17 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
