The Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) serves the clinical translational research engine of the University of Rochester. Specifically, the Informatics branch within the CTSI provides a variety of informatics services and develops innovative tools and methods to support researchers at the University.
This CTSI Analyst/Programmer will be responsible for developing tools to query, map, and process clinical data to meet the research needs of URMC faculty and staff. Knowledge of SQL and relational database systems, such as Microsoft SQL Server or PostgreSQL, is required. Familiarity with research environments is preferred, including ontologies, data warehouses, and data integration techniques, such as ETL.
Reports to the Lead Informaticist in CTSI Informatics branch.
Develop SQL queries and other scripting code to access, clean, map and process clinical data. This includes developing customized data reports and extracts for investigator to meet specific clinical research needs, while evaluating and following best practices for data handling and code creation and versioning.
Provide consultation support on installed system support and related programs; Work with researchers to design and define and document data requirements, adhering to appropriate data governance, regulatory compliance policies. Periodically instruct user groups on such systems.
Analyze and evaluate data quality and completeness. Troubleshoot to identify causes of data quality issues and work with appropriate team members to resolve discrepancies.
Coordinate and collaborate with other programmers and analysts to achieve research specific goals and to develop novel tools and approaches.
Assist in the operational support of CTSI-sponsored tools and applications, including user management, user-training and support, application change management, and routine progress reporting.
Assist in developing, testing, and deploying computer programs to facilitate the implementation of novel informatics solutions in support of translational research.
Other duties as required by the Director and Senior Informatician of the CTSI Informatics branch, including assisting with special ad hoc projects regarding URMC clinical research data reporting and analysis.
A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or equivalent, and 23 years of programming experience with SQL are required.
Experience with a Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) is required, Microsoft SQL Server preferred.
Experience and knowledge with Python, i2b2, ontologies, ETL and data mapping are highly valuable.
Must be a team player with outstanding organization skills, and strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Familiarity with research or clinical data handling processes is highly desirable.
Must be available to work on-site
