Under general direction from the CTSI PIs, in close collaboration with CTSI core and function directors, and with considerable latitude for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative:
CTSI Education Program Operations – 30%
Ensures the achievement of CTSI education program objectives by leading the development, implementation, and management of programs, resources, and services. This includes: Providing information and education program updates to the Directors and Chief of Staff, creating and implementing annual operational and evaluation plans, and strategic planning for research education. Programs in this domain include workforce development programs, career development and research training programs (including the CTSI-funded KL2 and TL1 training programs), the Translational Biomedical Science PhD program, and other extramurally funded education programs administered by the CTSI (e.g. Empire Clinical Research Investigator Program).
Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates administrative and program staff. Develops policies and procedures and makes recommendations for effective management and coordination of all CTSI Education staff and programs.
CTSI Education Program Communications and Integration – 30%
*Maintains effective communications with UR and URMC entities to ensure successful achievement of education program objectives and to support CTSI goals. *This includes relationships related to educational programs with the Office of Graduate Education, Office for Human Subject Protection, Office of Research and Project Administration, Center for Health & Technology, Center for Research Implementation and Translation, and Academic IT.
Serves as the CTSI representative with respect to the Research Education portfolio to NIH/NCATS Program Officer and other key CTSA-consortium collaborators, and other areas as directed by the CTSI leadership. Takes on leadership roles, participates, and conducts presentations in CTSA Consortium committees related to Research Education.
With collaborators, develops, prepares, and submits applications for extramural grants to advance the CTSI Education mission, especially with respect to the Education portfolio, including new, renewal or supplemental grants or contracts from the NIH and other funders. Duties include identifying funding opportunities, project planning, project management, narrative writing, editing and reviewing.
Budget and Regulatory Oversight – 20%
Ensures that CTSI education programs remain within budget through effective controls, and appropriate approvals, and that the education programs remain in compliance with regulatory reporting requirements.
This includes effective communication with CTSI Core and Function directors, Chief of Staff, Directors, Principal Investigators, and the CTSI Financial Administrator. Responsible for, and directly supervises, regulatory reporting and ensures compliance with government regulations and funding requirements. Oversees and ensures timely progress reports to funders and Chief of Staff. Responsible for direct communication regarding the Education portfolio with funders, the Office of Research Program Administration, and other regulatory bodies. As a member of the CTSI Executive team, develops and controls Education program project and operating budgets; establishes guidelines for the distribution and control of expenses.
CTSI Leadership Team– 20%
As a member of the CTSI Executive Team, ensures effective communication with all other members and is recognized as a valued source of information for plans, coordination, and decision making required for CTSI’s success.Develops agendas and raises topics for discussion at CTSI Leadership meetings, especially related to CTSI education programs; leads and contributes to discussions, and provides timely follow-up on action items. As a member of the CTSI Executive Committee, provides leadership, strategic direction and oversight ensuring that the mission and aims of the CTSI are moving forward. Provides guidance and advice to CTSI leadership, staff, and other URMC collaborators to integrate CTSI Education programs with other URMC and UR initiatives. Prepares analytical reports and presentations on progress of CTSI Education programs for internal and external stakeholders.
Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of relevant experience, including at least 2 years at a managerial level; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s Degree in Public Health, Business Administration, or related field, and 4 – 8 years of relevant experience, with at least 5 years in a managerial capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and experience is strongly preferred. This leadership position requires a professional, knowledgeable in federal and state regulations for protecting human subjects involved in research, grants management and general research regulation. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication and project management skills are required. Knowledge of design and clinical research methods used in translational experimentation as well as previous experience in human subject research administration, research compliance and research coordination are expected. Experience in working within the CTSA Network is highly desirable. Position will require occasional travel.
