Dental Asst Licensed-Lead

Under the general direction of the Clinic Administrator and/or Director, supports the clinical operations of the dental clinic. Provides direction and supervision to dental assisting staff and students, as well as performing chairside assistance and advanced dental functions as needed under NYS licensure. Coordinates clinic activities, assignments, and resources to ensure an efficient work flow. Trains and serves as a resource for staff. Addresses faculty, staff, or patient concerns as needed.


Leads Dental Assistants


Specialty and general dentistry instruments such as Panoral x-ray units, radiograph automatic processors, impression trays, syringes, burs, aspirators, saliva ejectors, suction pumps, amalgamators, ultrasonic cleaners, autoclaves, Adec unit, nitrogen tank, OR cart, pulse oximeter, dinamapp B/P monitor, oral surgery instruments, stethoscope, sphygmomanometer, spore testing equipment and densitometer.


Clinical Practice: Performs all functions of a Licensed Dental Assistant.

Clinical Support

  1. Serves as a resource and provides daily operational direction and technical guidance to staff and students.

  2. Coordinates activity in the clinic in regards to assignments, coverage, provider needs, etc.

  3. Oversees and ensures adequate inventory of clinic equipment, instruments, forms, and supplies. Approves replacement orders.

  4. Ensures efficient room utilization through oversight of daily preparation of dental units, staffing, and workflow.

  5. Oversees and coordinates instrument repairs.

  6. Coordinates with registration staff and others to ensure a smooth flow of patients.

Administrative Support

  1. Ensures operatory compliance with Infection Control, safety and regulatory requirements.

  2. Provides initial onboarding and training for new staff. Oversees subsequent training and shadowing.

  3. Assists Manager with policy development and implementation. Understands operations and makes suggestions for operational improvement in order to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and solve operational problems.

  4. Provides feedback on employee performance.

  5. Monitors, reviews, assesses Quality Control data. Initiates or makes recommendations for issue resolution.


Graduate of a Dental Assistant Program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Dental and Dental Auxiliary Education Program and 3-5 years of dental experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. New York State license or Limited Permit required. Prefer Supervisory or management experience. Knowledge of dental terminology, procedures, and computer experience preferred.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $21.57 - $29.12 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
