Responsibilities
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Digital Strategy, the Digital Designer must support strategic communications across the University of Rochester by conceptualizing, directing, and delivering effective and distinctive brand experiences through websites and other interactive mediums. The Digital Designer must demonstrate superior skills and expertise in digital/web design, UI/UX design, interaction design, information design, wireframing, prototyping, and art direction.
Responsibilities:
Under direction and with latitude for judgement, the Digital Designer is responsible for the following duties.
Conceptualizing and creating innovative and effective design wireframes and interactive prototypes for new and existing websites, newsletters, reports, presentations, and other digital/multimedia formats with an extreme attention to detail and in accordance with brand standards and guidelines.
Collaborating with web developers, designers, content strategists, and project managers to refine and execute design prototypes to meet strategic goals and brand standards. Taking and applying feedback from colleagues, team leaders, and clients to improve designs. Quality assuring the implemented versions of designs and providing feedback to web developers to successfully execute distinctive work on time and according to specifications. {20%}
Enhancing and maintaining digital brand standards and design components to reflect strategic goals, benchmarking, user testing, web standards, and digital trends. Exploring, developing, and presenting briefs to advocate for new visual approaches and solutions that deliver a distinctive and visionary digital brand experience.
Consulting on redesign projects with clients to offer a range of solutions that meet goals and align with brand standards. Presenting design and optimization proposals to assist sub-brands in aligning more clearly and strategically with the University brand.
Using data, research, and best practices to advocate for design solutions that help the University deliver a consistent brand message and superior user experience. Providing training, education, and support to design colleagues across the University.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in related discipline such as Computer Science, Business, Mathematics, Statistics, Science or Engineering, and 4-5 years of related experience, preferably 2-3 years in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master's degree preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
B.A. in graphic/digital/web design and 5+ years of experience in digital design; agency experience preferred
Outstanding sense of design style paired with an incredible eye for detail
Experience creating digital prototypes and strong understanding of UI/UX design, usability, and accessibility
Thought leadership; a strong point of view; ability to contribute to strategic development of an assignment
Mastery of design tools: Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design, Sketch, lnvision
Experience working in cross-functional teams and taking direction from senior team members; familiarity with Agile project management approaches preferred
Solid understanding of digital ecosystems and brand communications for complex organizations
Highly proficient writing and speaking in English with strong presentation skills, demonstrating an ability to clearly articulate ideas and present work both internally and to clients
Interest in design trends, digital formats, creative technology, and digital marketing
Compelling portfolio of distinctive and visionary work that spans digital design, typography, iconography, and storytelling across a range of digital mediums
