Responsibilities

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Provides leadership and direction for the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of Human Resources programs and projects. Leads efforts to integrate Human Resources objectives into all aspects of operations. Collaborates with the Vice President Human Resources to ensure consistency in Human Resources practices and develops solutions for institutional issues.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborates with leadership to understand the organization’s goals and strategy related to staffing, recruiting, learning and development and retention. Participates in the development and execution of the Human Resources strategic plan, as well as provides input for supported departmental strategic plans. Develops short and long-range strategies to support business objectives and collaborates with Senior Administration to develop related programs and policies.

  • Oversees the administration of human resource programs including, but not limited to, compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, employee engagement; occupational health and safety; and training and development. Provides expertise and counsel on all matters related to the effective operational structure, utilization and development of staff. Directs the implementation of programs designed to achieve organizational objectives and efficiency of operations. Provides creative and innovative solutions to business problems.

  • Plans, develops and administers programs to promote positive employee relations. Coaches and advises leaders and employees at all levels on work- related problems. Facilitates the handling of disputes and grievances in accordance with University guidelines and policies. Advises leaders on employee relations issues and proper handling of disciplinary actions.

  • Collaborates with Organizational Development and Diversity to design and deliver interventional activities.

  • Conducts research and analysis of organizational trends including review of reports and metrics from the organizations human resource information system (HRIS) or talent management system. Conducts and/or directs studies and recommends methods for addressing a variety of Human Resources and development issues. Prepares and analyzes statistical reports to provide information for project work and reporting requirements.

  • Interprets and administers University policies and procedures. Ensures compliance with Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action guidelines and immigration, labor and health and safety laws. Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law; applies this knowledge to facilitate changes in policy, practice, and resources to upper management.

  • Hires, trains, mentors and evaluates assigned staff. Facilitates professional development, training, and certification activities for HR staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field required

  • PHR/SPHR/SHRM preferred.

  • 7 years of experience in Human Resources administration required

  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required

  • Training/coaching preferred
