Responsibilities

Job Summary:

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at The University of Rochester seeks an Assistant Education Specialist to play an integral role in the educational mission of the department. The successful applicant will have expertise in professional education and will assist in the administration and development of educational programs offered by and within the Department.

Qualifications:

The position requires a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with preference given to a Master’s in Professional Education. The successful applicant will have expertise in at least one of the following; digital platforms, statistics, educational measurement, psychometrics, human factors, health care or behavioral psychology. Candidates will work with and be guided by our current Department Education specialist and must possess time management and organizational skills including the ability to work on several projects simultaneously while meeting project deadlines. Excellent team building, interpersonal and diplomatic skills, the ability to work with and mentor OB/Gyn providers and trainees, and the ability to translate adult education expertise to a clinical education environment are essential.

Principal Responsibilities:

Curriculum/ Program Administration and Development:

  • Evaluate and refine existing curricula and teaching strategies for residency training programs, medical student clerkships, fellowship programs, and coordination with nursing and multidisciplinary education programs.

  • Design, develop, implement and evaluate new educational initiatives, simulation programs and course to curricula in collaboration with content experts.

  • Develop and revise student, resident and fellow performance evaluation tools.

  • Analyze student, resident, fellow, and multidisciplinary team performance data. Summarize results to faculty and guide curriculum development to meet the needs of all learners to close learning gaps.

  • Counsel and/ or coach learners who seek assistance or are identified by the faculty as needing additional support or intervention.

  • Support and develop resident and fellow as teacher program.

    Faculty Development:

  • Contribute to faculty development workshops centered on curriculum interventions, effective feedback and evaluation, teaching strategies, and educational policies and procedures as mandated by LCME and ACGME.

  • Promote excellence in teaching through respectful behavior, role modeling and serving as a mentor to clinicians, staff and management team.

  • Collaborate with and support other faculty on education research initiatives including grant proposals, program evaluations and other independent research projects.

  • Serve as mentor and coach for students, residents, fellow and multidisciplinary education research projects.

    Administration:

  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of information systems to support department educational activities.

  • Research, gather, organize, and summarize data for Department Chair, Associate Chair for Education, Program and Clerkship Directors, Nurse Educator and other faculty members within the department.

  • Develop and present reports, proposals, publications, and presentations as needed.

  • Attend and participate in meetings and conferences.

  • Assist with trainee scheduling

    Requirements:

    Master’s degree in Education, Healthcare Administration, Social Work, Nursing or a related field and 4 years of training experience, or an equivalent combination of eduation and experience preferred.
