GENERAL PURPOSE:
The Emergency Medicine Communication Specialist (EMCS) serves as the first point of contact between the SMH Emergency Department, prehospital providers and outside facilities for both adult and pediatric patients to determine needed resources, optimize throughput and maintain patient safety. Based on the information received, the EMCS serves a vital role in distrubtion of information and activation of specific care teams including but not limited to Emergency Medicine, Trauma, Stroke, Pediatrics etc
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collecting and documenting relevant information from prehospital providers –including ground and helicopter agencies, via radio, telephone phone and additional digitial communications
Collecting and documenting relevant information from transfer center, outside facilities and community based providers via radio, telephone phone and additional digitial communications
Utilizing collected information, assesses resource needs and initiates appropriate activation of specific care teams (Emergnecy Medicine, Trauma, Stroke, Pediatrics, Burn, MI, etc..)
Receiving and documenting clinical information in EMR and receiving critical lab values and makes appropriate notification to clinical team members
Follows hospital incident management system protocols in both declared and resource dependent incidents and manages incoming calls during events Utilize and maintain Monroe County Disaster Paging system, and will assist with maintaining communication systems
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or GED required
Associate or Baccalaureate degree preferred
Two years of Emergency Services, Pre-Hospital or Clinical Emergency Medicine experience required
Ideally within the past five years preferred
Knowledge of basic Emergency Medicine clinical and operational protocols required
Excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills and ability to manage multiple competing priorities with efficiency and professionalism required
Basic compentcy with computers and additional digital interfaces required
EMT-B or higher certification or
LPN or higher nursing licensure required

Pay Range
Pay Range: $ 23.00 - $ 29.90 Hourly
The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
