Responsibilities

Position Summary:

The Sr. Analyst Programmer, Pharmacy IT analyst is a member of a cross-functional team where teamwork, collaboration, challenges and continuous learning are the norm. The primary responsibilities of the position include: recommending, planning, evaluating and translating clinical practice/operations into electronic content and workflows using electronic information systems for URMC and affiliates, related to the medications and pharmacy build. The primary goals of this position include: improving pharmacy operations, standardizing processes, gaining workflow efficiencies, and improving patient care using IT resources. This individual will be responsible for backup of maintaining the IT support (Servers, interfaces, databases and set-up) of ancillary pharmacy (non-eRecord) systems as well as a functional knowledge of eRecord willow functionality and Script-pro to develop and maintain, clinical and operational workflows. Other analyst attributes include: coordinating projects and activities, providing effective communications, and interacting with a diverse team as well as the Hospital and Medical Center management and staff. Must be very knowledgeable of organization’s policies, procedures, and clinical operations.

Responsibilities:

Under the general direction of the Associate Director of Pharmacy Informatics, conforming to URMC and ISD policy but retaining latitude for independent judgment and initiative:

  • Provides on-going pharmacy application support to existing users.

  • Trouble shoots operational issues and problems with the pharmacy applications. Communicates and coordinates problem solving with appropriate internal and external sources.

  • Reviews interface error transactions logs on a routine basis with eRecord. Takes immediate action to resolve any problems.

  • Maintains database updates, testing and maintenance for the pharmacy information systems and medication databases.

  • Completes the functional design and build of the eRecord clinical system after successfully achieving (and maintaining) current Epic certification.

  • Works closely with the rest of the project team, subject matter experts, training and technical team to define processes that cross applications and functional areas

  • Manages all phases of assigned projects; meets established deadlines.

  • Analyzes new functionality in new releases to determine how it should be used.

  • Coordinates software updates and changes. Reviews and tests each new release.

  • Takes the initiative to solve problems and develop solutions for complex issues

  • Performs in-depth analysis and facilitates development of integrated workflows

  • Manages monthly and ad hoc reports and compliance exports.

  • Participates in, and/or maintains standards for:

  • System documentation

  • Clinical database/spreadsheets for the system build

  • Naming and numbering conventions and security classifications

  • Change control

  • Participates in the build of Meaningful Use content, and demonstrates awareness and familiarity, with MU requirements.

  • Partners with the Pharmacy IT team with the installation, implementation, maintenance and upgrade of pharmacy information and automation technology systems. To include, but not limited to:

  • URMC and affiliates Inpatient Pharmacies (eRecord, Controlled Access Cabinets, Automated dispensing systems, TPN Compounder, IV robotics)

  • URMC and affiliates Outpatient Pharmacies (eRecord, Pharmacy Information Systems, Automated Dispensing Systems)

  • Assist with maintaining and coordinating Pharmacy Intranet and Internet web sites

  • Works collaboratively with system vendor(s) to resolve user issues as they develop.

  • Provides training of pharmacy personnel in the use of the pharmacy information systems.

  • Develops and prepares Policies and Procedures for the use of the pharmacy information systems. Develops a log specifying when report/jobs need to be run. Revises the policies and procedures/logs

Qualifications:

  • Preferred medical center experience (minimum of three years) in health care setting, preferably within URMC and its affiliates.

  • Preferable experience in hospital pharmacy or community pharmacy practice site.

  • Possesses knowledge of clinics, physician practices, and/or hospital operations, procedures/functions and the relationships between them.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of experience required.

  • Strong attention to detail, ability to develop creative solutions to complex problems, and develop critical thinking skills.

  • Displays a solid technical aptitude; understanding of computer systems, interfaces, software, and IT functions.

  • Ability to lead meetings, prioritize, resolve conflicts, maintain issues lists and work to a project plan.

  • Strong communication, team work, and follow-up skills.

  • Some familiarity with Meaningful Use (ARRA) as well as HIPAA, JCAHO, 340B and other regulations that impact clinical practice.
