Under the general direction of the Facilities Safety and Compliance Manager, the Safety and Compliance Coordinator assists with the daily administration with emphasis on the functional responsibilities of the program . The Coordinator will work closely with the Facilities Safety and Compliance Manager and the Facilities Department staff to ensure compliance with regulatory standards from the Joint Commission (TJC), New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and other agencies. While supporting the applicable policies and procedures of the URMC, supports the Facilities Safety and Compliance Manager in all aspects of this position as required . Remains up to date on all regulatory standards applicable to F acilities S afety and C ompliance

In completing the following sections, i ndicate the frequency of use by placing the number that corresponds t o the appl i cable frequency .

  • Represents the Facilities Department interests with Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) and other disciplines to complete weekly facility safety audits of hospital occupancies to include Article 28 off sites. Utilizing the AuditP r o software prog r am, inspections are used to identify and correct fac il ity discrepancies to maintain compliance with a varie t y of regulatory agencies. Generates work orders for corrective action and follows t hrough to ensure completion. Conducts other facility i n spections as requ i red. Results of these inspections will be reported at both the hospital wide ECC mee t ing and the MCFO Safety Committee Meeting. 10%

  • Maintains oversight and provides supports to the trade shop supervisors to ensure required safety training of staff is being met. Maintains centralized records as required and conducts train i ng audits on a periodic basis. This training includes new employee safety onboarding, which reviews shop specific safety and the employee's Job Hazard Analysis (JHA). 10%

  • Works with the Safety and Compliance Manager and ap p licable Facilities staff on the safety of mechanical space s in the Medical Center, roof tops and outside grounds . Follows through on noted deficiencies, providing quarterly reports to the Environment of Care Council. 10%

  • Is an active member of the hospital's Env i ronment of Care Council, participating in discussions as they pertain to job respo n sibilities of the position. 5%

  • Manages the Project Risk Assessment for SMH healthcare occupancies. This is a multi-disciplinary group that meets weekly and/or as required to review construction/renovation projects in the hospital and at the University's Article 28 Offsite Facilities. The emphasis of this team is to ensure the management of the environment during demolition, construction and renovation is safe for patients, staff and visitors. This is accomplished through identifying and mitigating risk with an emphasis on Infection Prevention. Maintains all records of the meetings, obtains required signatures of the team and follows through with the University Fire Marshal's office on the issuance of Interim Life Safety Measures when they are required to be implemented. 20%

  • Assists the Facilities Safety and Compliance Manager in the facilitation of a department-based employee safety committee to review safety concerns, develop and follow through on appropriate corrective action to ensure a safe working environment. Investigates work place accidents and near misses, identifies root causes and follows through on corrective action plans to mitigate risk. Responsibilities include however are not limited to assisting in the preparation of agenda's, reviewing minutes, preparing Safety Topics of the Month as a training opportunity for review at each shop level . 10%

  • Responsible for the investigation, tracking and reporting of all incidents involving MCFO employees and contractors. The Safety Coordinator will report out monthly at the MCFO Safety committee on a monthly basis on all incidents and follow ups that occurred. 10%

  • The Safety Coordinator will act as the point person for MCFO on infrastructure failures related to safety. This responsibility will include a variety of utility related events to include all repairs that are required due to water or flood events. The coordinator will ensure that all damaged building material is removed and disposed of properly in accordance with Infection Prevention and Asbestos Control protocols. 10%

  • Maintains the most current information and training on regulatory standards which apply to the healthcare facilities field in order to be effective in operations and goals of position. 5%

  • Assists the Safety and Compliance Manager in Joint Commission's Life Safety and Environment of Care compliance in the hospital's healthcare occupancies. 5%

  • Completes other tasks as required and assigned through the Facilities Safety and Compliance Manager. 5%

    Education/Experience (min i mum required):

    Bachelor's Degree in a relevant safety or facilities field and at least 5-6 years of experience in occupational health and safety or an equivalent combination of e ducation and experience

    License/Certificatikon Required:

    Authorized OSHA Outreadh instructor in General Industry (May wor4k towards this afer original hire).

    Other Requirements:

    Need to maintin clean valid NYS drivier's license.

    Need to have ability to read and write English.

    Need to have operating home telephone or cell phon (provided by organization) for emergency call-in duty.
