Financial Analyst

Conducts complex analysis of financial data in support of the Department of Ophthalmology (Flaum Eye Institute). Performs analyses, audits, and tests necessary to ascertain integrity of accounting data, account balances, and ensure accurate reporting. Assists with annual Capital and Operating Budget. Performs moderately complex work associated with journal entries, variance analysis, purchase order creation, and deposit of payments. Under the direction of the Manager of Financial Operations executes corrective action and solutions as appropriate.

Must possess a positive, helpful attitude in dealing with faculty, staff, students, external constituents, and co­ workers. Should be a well-organized, independent worker able to function within a team environment.


Manages financial reporting, forecasting, and cost accounting for the Department of Ophthalmology, including faculty practice, hospital, Optical Shops, research, and teaching programs.

Produces advanced reporting and analysis to include:

  • Integrated enterprise-wide financial statements

  • Customizable reports to measure and report on the department performance goals and objectives

  • Expanded faculty dashboards, including financial and clinical data

  • Benchmarking Analysis.

  • Financial analysis of revenue and expenses for faculty practice

  • Other ad hoc reports and analysis as needed

Manages annual operating and capital budgets for submission to SMD Finance, SMH Finance, and URMFG Finance.

Analyzes and interprets data, statistics, and financial information and identifies significant differences in relationships among sources of information.

Implements, updates, and coordinates financial policies to maintain the financial integrity of the department and maximize internal controls.


Bachelor's degree required. 4 years of related work experience including at least 1 year in an administrative capacity in an academic office or project management, or the equivalent experience in business. Or an equivalent combination of experience and training.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with URMFG\SMH financials and Grant accounting.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $ 58,800 - $ 82,300 Annually

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
