Fire Safety Inspector I

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Observes and reports all violations of the principles of fire prevention and maintains fire prevention materials at predetermined standards.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Inspects and maintains University fire extinguishers in accordance with local, state, and national codes and standards. Inspects all University properties for fire safety.

  2. Assists in testing fire protection equipment and systems such as standpipes, sprinklers, fire alarms and fire pumps for compliance with predetermined standards; performs flow tests on University fire hydrants, fire pumps and fire protection systems.

  3. Conducts fire drills as required by local, state and national authorities having jurisdiction. Assists in conducting fire safety training classes and participates in training programs for fire brigades.

  4. Prepares and submits routine and special reports on all assigned activities. Maintains computer files of inspections and incidents and equipment inventories

  5. Maintains familiarity with current applicable codes and standards.

Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High School diploma or equivalent required. 2 years of related experience required or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have own transportation with current registration and valid driver's license required.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $15.38 - $21.54 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
