BACKGROUND:

he New Horizons Program is designed for senior adult music making. The Concert Band and Symphonic Band serve as the Intermediate and Advanced Bands in the New Horizons Band program. New Horizons is supported by the Eastman Community Music School (ECMS), a division of the renowned Eastman School of Music and the University of Rochester. ECMS nurtures and inspires students at all levels.

DUTIES:

  • Co-Direct the New Horizons Symphonic and Concert Bands

  • Conduct rehearsals and performances of the bands

  • Co-Administer the Symphonic and Concert Bands, managing necessary functions such as repertoire selection, concert scheduling and management, and communication with band members, band committees, and ESM mentors.

  • Communicate effectively, and in a timely manner with Co-Director, band members, ECMS staff and New Horizons colleagues, as necessary.

  • Attend meetings of the Band Council, New Horizons Program Council, and ECMS, when appropriate.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proven record as an outstanding educator and Band conductor

  • Ability to work collaboratively with Co-Director, ESM Mentors, and New Horizons colleagues

  • Expertise in leading and teaching non-professional musicians. Possess an understanding the social and artistic needs of amateur music makers.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with Co-Conductor, band members, ECMS and ESM staff.

  • Advanced degree preferred

  • Additional areas of expertise or interest: Senior Adult Education, Administrative skills

COMPENSATION:

To be negotiated by Associate ECMS Dean- yearly contract Growth Opportunity: This is a Time-as-Reported Instructor Position with space to grow.
