Insurance Collection Specialist (Billing Specialist)

Responsibilities
Position Summary:
Is responsible for reviewing charges in the Radiation Oncology EMR system for accuracy and compliance. Processes medical record requests and prepares appeal letters and appropriate documents for claim denials.
Typical Duties:
Reviews daily charges in the Radiation Oncology EMR system (Aria) for accuracy, by maintaining a detailed knowledge of billing procedures and insurance regulations.
Utilize reports to verify and add charges for weekly physics chart checks and weekly on-treatment physician visits.
Tracks patients undergoing Radiation Therapy on spreadsheets for proper billing of daily and weekly charges.
Assembles the necessary medical documents for claim appeals, claim and authorization denials, and medical records requests. This includes pulling medical documents from eRecord and the Department of Radiation Oncology Aria EMR and Activity Capture system.
Updates and monitors spreadsheets of patients undergoing Radiation Therapy to verify insurance coverage remains the same during the course of treatment.
Follows-up on charges in eRecord workqueues, including but not limited to, claim edits, claim denials, no-activity claims.
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Associate's degree in Business Administration required
A minimum of 2 years Hospital Patient Accounting or Consumer Collections Experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required
Medical Billing preferred
Certified Medical Billing Specialist, Certified Medical Records Technician, Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist preferred
