Responsibilities
Coordinates work for members of the Medical Center steamfitter/plumbing shop. Able to perform all of the duties ascribed to this group. Operates maintains and repairs equipment and facilities such as: high, medium and low pressure steam piping systems and boilers at outlying properties; domestic hot and cold water systems; pure water systems (deionized and distilled); storm, sanitary and acid waste sewer systems; natural and other gas systems; fire protection systems and swimming pool systems; and repairs, replaces and installs piping systems; installs pipe insulation. Uses welding and soldering equipment, saws and cutters, pipe benders and threaders, meter, other steamfitter and plumber tools and other equipment required on the job. Operates, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, rebuilds and installs: steam pressure reducing valves, steam relief valves, steam traps, steam expansion joints, steam valves, steam heat exchangers, radiators, steam convectors, steam humidifiers, steam and condensate piping, condensate and vacuum return pumps and accessories; components of domestic hot and cold water systems and pure water systems, including valves, faucets, flush valves, vacuum breakers, shower facilities and the like; storm, sanitary and acid waste systems and equipment including neutralizing equipment, pumps, grease traps, drains, cleaning sewers with high pressure equipment, sinks, toilets, urinals and the like; and natural and other gas systems and equipment, including regulators, valves and the like. Installs piping from chilled water lines to air conditioning units and installs piping from steam lines to heating units. Cleans and maintains hot water tanks. Installs filtration and water treatment equipment. Repairs, replaces, rebuilds and installs steam, hot water, pure water and chilled water coils. Cuts, bends reams, threads, solders, silver solders, brazes welds, fuses, beads, leads, etc, the following piping materials: metal, glass, plastic and the like. Reviews and performs work on all systems for proper operation and optimum efficiency and recommends changes to achieve optimum operation. Installs and/or modifies systems and/or equipment from verbal instructions, blue prints, plans specifications, schematics and manufacturers' recommendations. Troubleshoots systems and components, identifies problems and makes repairs. Responsible to the Trade Supervisor for completion of delegated tasks. Must have excellent communication and organizational skills. Facilitates and assures that work is performed in a safe, efficient manner and according to code. Must have a working telephone and be available for call-in duty.
Requirements
Trade school training and 2-3 years experience as a Steamfitter or Plumber; or 4 years of apprentice training and 1-2 years experience as a Steamfitter or Plumber; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. PREFERRED: 3rd Class Stationary Boiler Operator's license. Requires all around knowledge, experience and skill over and above that set forth in the job description for the basic job, or jobs, involved. Performs duties as set forth in the basic job description in addition to acting in the capacity of "instructor", "trouble shooter", "specialist", or similar categories. Usually is responsible to the Department Supervisor for the quantity and quality of the work of others in the group. An element of leadership is necessary for effective guidance of others, but not to the extent usually associated with the jobs of SUPERVISORY level. Hiring, disciplining, promoting and firing are not contemplated within the scope of this classification. He or she may participate and assist in performance ratings of other employees in the group.

Pay Range
Pay Range: $ 29.16 - $ 37.47 Hourly
The referenced pay range represents the first and last step pay rates for this job, as set forth in the applicable collective bargaining agreement. Individual pay will be set in accordance with terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
