Full Time 40 hours Grade 010 General Accounting-Finance
8:30 AM-5 PM
This position will serve under the direction of General Accounting Manager. The individual must have a good understanding of UR Financials Accounting System and technical accounting knowledge. Have the ability to perform independent review of financial information and proactively work with cross functional team to identify solutions when issues arise. Able to provide general accounting process related training as needed.
Journal Entries Review and Processing
Review and process journal entries received from across all University departments timely and accurately. Must have strong technical skills in UR Financials. including sufficient knowledge on journal entry form, EIB template, General Accounting policies. Performs quality control checks during daily and monthly journal processing to ensure accurate spend and revenue categories. and FAOs are used. Provide guidance to divisional staffs across the university on journal entry connections. Assist with month end general ledger close as needed.
General Accounting Inquiries and Research
Frequent interactions with divisions on journal processing ,md inquiries. Have a solid understanding on university chart of accounts structure including revenue or spend categories, ledger accounts, FAOs. the functions of different types of journal source, and journal processing flow. Effectively utilize UR Financials system. online reference materials and other resources to research issues/errors and provide corrective solutions in a professional manner.
Petty Cash Processing and Reconciliation
Timely review petty cash vouchers and backup submitted for accounting accuracy and record petty cash transactions submitted by the entire university community. Effectively work with all casher' s locations on petty cash policy enforcement.
General Accounting Inbox Management
Effectively manage General Accounting inbox daily. Provide upfront correspondence in a professional manner on general inquiries. Use good judgement to direct the inquiries that require special knowledge to appropriate accounting staff or management to ensure all workflows are addressed in a timely manner.
Journal Entry Training
Participate in training pe1tains to journal entry preparation, journal entry processing. and Enterprise Interface Builder (EIB) upload in UR accounting system CUR Financials). Update training material as process changes.
Perform other related work as required including but not limited to quarterly system upgrade testing, audit request. and journal related reprinting. Cross train with other staff for back up coverage. Assists in the development of policy and procedures to enhance the services of the department.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting plus l year of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel. Experience with other Microsoft products (Word, Outlook), and accounting systems preferred.
Strong communication skill and attention to detail are critical to the position. Have strong work ethics with high integrity. Ability to work independently as well as in a team structured environment.
