Laboratory Technician II - Target Fabrication Group

The Laboratory for Laser Energetics at the University of Rochester is seeking an enthusiastic Laboratory Technician to join our Target Fabrication Group. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for assisting with the microfabrication of components used in laser fusion experiments.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the macro- and microfabrication of targets used in laser fusion experiments

  • Are comfortable using microscopes and metrology equipment

  • Hands-on-work with millimeter-scale parts to perform assembly tasks

  • Collaborate with the research team to improve fabrication processes

  • Maintain accurate records of assembly processes and results

  • Ensure laboratory safety protocols are followed at all times

Successful candidates:

  • Proficient in handling small parts used to build multi-part assemblies

  • Ability to read technical drawings

  • Creative thinking and ingenuity to improve assembly procedures

  • Familiarity with micro-machining techniques

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in a relevant field is preferred

  • Ability to read and understand assembly procedures

  • Basic computer skills required. CAD software experience is a plus

  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team

  • Strong communication and organizational skills

  • Highly motivated and enthusiastic about learning new skills and techniques
