Provide research support to the Technical Director of the Flow Cytometry SRL involving operation of the cell sorters and analytical flow cytometry instruments. Work will also involve quality control, maintenance and some troubleshooting of instruments within the flow cytometry core, as well as the testing of new instrumentation. Additional work will be performing established immunological test methodologies for multiple collaborative projects. Assistance of new investigators in the proper use of flow cytometers will be required. The technician will be responsible for scientific record keeping, data analysis and presentation of data at lab meetings, as well as general lab duties for ordering lab supplies, organization and lab maintenance. .
MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT USED:
Flow Cytometers (analytical and cell sorters), Tissue culture hood, Centrifuges, Microscopes, Incubators, MacIntosh and PC Computers, ImageStream, CyTOF Mass Cytometer
AAS degree in appropriate discipline plus 2-3 years specialized experience in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prefer BS degree in biological sciences, or related field. Experience in immunology and/or tissue culture is desirable.
Experience with flow cytometry is desired. Candidate must have excellent command of oral and written English language and proficiency in both PC and MAC computer systems. Computer skills required include MS Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. In addition, knowledge of specialized flow cytometry software is desirable (DIVA, Flowjo, IDEAS, etc.). Night hours will be required.

Operation of Cell Sorters
Operation of Analytical Flow Cytometers including the CyTOF
Developmental and validation of new instrumentation as well as the daily operation, quality control, maintenance and troubleshooting of instruments in the Flow Cytometry core.
Operation of ImageStream
Immunofluorescent cell staining
Separation of peripheral blood cells by magnetic bead, complement lysis, column or cell sorting technologies
Quality control and freezing of cell and antibody reagents for use in standardized assays
Training and Data Analysis:
- Provide data management, conduct and present experimental data analysis under direction and preparation of visual representations of the experimental data using computer modeling for the purpose of inclusion in materials for publications and presentations. Responsible for scientific record keeping.
Maintain laboratory organization, order supplies, routine lab and equipment maintenance
