Laboratory Technician III (S)

Responsibilities

Position Summary:

Research technician in a laboratory aimed at understanding the evolution of animal development using a mollusc embryo as a model system.

Lab Maintenance/Organization (5%):

The technician will be responsible for lab administrative duties including coordinating and maintaining reagents, laboratory waste, and laboratory safety.

Research responsibilities (85% total):

The candidate will be expected to perform in situ hybridizations and antibody staining (10%), embryo injections (30%), data analysis (15%), and molecular biology (30%). Experience with molecular biology is desired, though training can be provided as needed for other skills. Candidates must be organized and have the ability to work well both independently and with others.

Administrative responsibilities (10% total):

The technician will be responsible for ordering supplies, including biological reagents, lab equipment, and daily consumable items. Responsibilities may include negotiating with multiple vendors for large purchases, tracking following up on lost orders, and monitoring lab ordering needs .

Qualifications:

B.A. or B.S. degree and research experience in biology or comparable experience.
