Laboratory Technician III (S)

POSITION SUMMARY:
This full time position will be supervised by the principle investigator and laboratory supervisor. The technician performs technical assignments, which are moderate in complexity. (S)he is responsible for supervising and training of any new laboratory technologists as well as work and project assignments for new comers. (S)he is also responsible for data base entry and maintaining exact and clear records of all projects. (S)he exercises a high degree of judgment and the ability to interact with multiple clinical and laboratory teams on a daily and sometimes urgent basis. The technician is not responsible for any diagnostic testing or reporting the results of testing but is responsible for the handling of specimens and gathering relevant clinical information. (S)he is also responsible for quality control/assurance for specimen and data collection.
SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION RECEIVED:
Lab Tech. III reports to the laboratory supervisor and principle investigator. Generally, works closely with other experienced members of the clinical laboratory. Some independence with performing experiments and record keeping is essential.
MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT USED:
Automated blood coagulation analyzer, platelet aggregometer, thromboelastography, ELISA assays, centrifuges, automated cell counters, flow cytometry, and associated computers and software.
Required Experience :
Research/laboratory experience required. Familiarity with basic laboratory and sterile techniques is required. All standard office equipment such as telephones, PC’s, Laboratory Information System (LIS) terminal and printers, calculator, copier, and fax machines.
Preferred but not required :
Phlebotomy, flow cytometry, cell culture.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES :
Clinical trial assistance and coordination with sponsors and partnering departments (i.e. guideline correspondence, coordination of specified testing) (30%).
Daily maintenance and QC, performing assays on the automated blood analyzers. (10%)
Collect and analyze samples, and maintain electronic sample database. (15%)
Interact with various technical, professional and clerical staff in the clinical laboratory. (5%)
Assists in developing, devising or modifying methods and procedures. (5%)
Performs and documents instrument troubleshooting as needed. (5%)
Adheres to quality control, quality assurance protocols, and policies. (5%)
Blood sample processingation according to protocol guidelines for clinical trial central labs. (5%)
Assisting Health Project Coordinator as needed with ongoing clinical trials. (15%).
Maintains updated record of ongoing projects and participates in frequent discussions with the supervisor/during laboratory team meetings (5%).

QUALIFICATIONS :
Bachelor’s degree in appropriate discipline; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Pay Range
Pay Range: $ 16.49 - $ 23.08 Hourly
The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
