POSITION SUMMARY :
Is responsible for assisting the department manager to direct the daily operations of the department. Trains new employees, monitors quality and quantity of work performance in department, resolves account problems, and provides coverage during employee absences.
SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION EXERCISED :
Provides direction and supervision to Insurance Collection Specialists, Self Pay Collection Specialists, and Call center staff. Assigns and checks work. Assists supervisor in preparing performance evaluation data and provides input into salary increase recommendation process. Assumes functions of supervisor in his/her absence.
MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT USED :
PC (spreadsheet and database software) and standard office equipment, including but not limited to CRT, telephone, computer keyboarding, adding machine, and reader/printer.
TYPICAL DUTIES :
Serves as a focal point for answering questions and solving problems for difficult and unusual accounts, assists in problem identification, quantification, and resolution.
Assists in performing collection activities to ensure coverage during staff absences or as needed for collections staff & call center staff
Performs quality assurance monitoring for activities completed in area of immediate responsibility as well of other areas that affect it; using specific criteria, measures quality, quantity and timeliness of tasks performed; prepares related logs and management reports.
Writes new procedures and updates existing procedures as needed in conjunction with Billing Administrator; prepares daily, weekly, and monthly staff productivity and reports as requested.
Assists in personnel-related matters, such as time reporting, preparing performance evaluations, maintaining attendance records; assists in disciplinary actions.
On an exception basis handles patient complaints and inquiries, including correspondence; assures that patients are given prompt, courteous attention, in person, by telephone or by letter by Call Center staff and collectors
Serves as a liaison between immediate area and others in office and hospital; coordinates activities of outside collection agents; confers with third-party representatives on a routine and as needed basis, attends external third-party meetings and seminars.
Coordinates activities of the area; trains and cross trains employees within the area to perform billing, collection, and financial counseling activities, coordinates activities of volunteers and TSP employees.
Acts as authority in the absence of the supervisor, exercising tact and good judgment.
Associate’s degree in Business Administration or Personnel Management and 3 years of related collections experience with 1 year of demonstrated leadership experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Prefer medical terminology experience.
