Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY:

Is responsible for assisting the Billing Administrator to direct the daily operations of the UDFG billing staff with producing and sending claims, verifying benefits, charge entry, payment entry, ledger transfers, collection accounts, deposit verification, pretreatment estimates, Medicaid prior approvals and epaces billing.

Trains new employees, monitors quality and quantity of work performance of UDFG billing staff in department and at dental sites. Resolves account problems and provides coverage during employee absences.

SUPERVISION:

Provides direction and supervision to UDFG collections specialist and Lead Patient Service Reps (treatment coordinators). Assigns and checks work.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

  • Serves as a focal point for answering questions and solving problems for difficult accounts, assists in problem identification, quantification, and resolution. 25%

  • Manages submission of claims, data entry of payments, and monitors accounts receivable. 20%

  • Assists in performing collection activities to ensure coverage during staff absences or as needed. 10%

  • Performs quality assurance monitoring for activities completed in are of immediate responsibility as well of other areas that affect it; using specific criteria, measures quality, quantity and timeliness of tasks performed; prepares related logs and management reports. 10%

  • Writes new procedures and updates existing procedures as needed; prepares daily, weekly and monthly productivity and management reports. 10%

  • Assists in personnel-related matters, such as time reporting, preparing performance evaluations, maintaining attendance records; assists in disciplinary actions. 5%

  • On an exception basis handles patient complaints and inquires, including correspondence; assures that patients are given prompt, courteous attention, in person, by telephone or by letter. 10%

  • Serves as a liaison between immediate area and others in the UDFG; confers with third-party representatives on a routine and as needed basis, attends external meetings and seminars. 5%

  • Coordinates activities of the area; trains and cross trains employees within the area to perform billing, collection and financial counseling activities. 5%

QUALIFICATIONS:

Associate’s Degree in Business Administration or Personnel Management and 3 years of related collection experience with 1 year of demonstrated leadership experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Prefer medical terminology experience.
