The License Eligible Medical Technologist (MT), also referred to as Clinical Laboratory Technologist, accurately performs, interprets and carefully documents all technical procedures as per training and protocol guidelines. These duties include but are not limited to the following duties: computer documentation of work; quality control; and preventative maintenance of equipment. The technologist also organizes work to meet patient work load and performs technical and analytical duties under the supervision of a Licensed Medical Technologist. The License Eligible MT maintains job competence through in -house and other available continuing education.

Accurately performs and interprets clinical laboratory tests, procedures and techniques as assigned by the area supervisor or designee (65%).
Functions in technical support roles as needed: checking patient computer files, prioritizing and triaging work, answering phones, and other miscellaneous tasks. (10%)
Prepares reagents as instructed; restocks bench supplies; follows proper storage and sampling requirements for patient specimens; and troubleshoots and resolves problem specimens. (10%)
Performs daily, weekly, monthly and annual quality control as instructed and follows the preventative maintenance protocols when applicable. (5%)
Cleans general lab areas, answers phones, and rotates through other laboratory stations as needed when available. (3%)
Maintains continuing education and competencies as directed. (2%)
Participates in other duties as assigned. (5%)
Arrives promptly for assigned shifts and follows attendance policies.
Rotates shifts, weekends and holidays as assigned with on-call responsibilities.
Follows lab safety procedures with potentially hazardous materials.
Complies with department and University policies and procedures.
Demonstrates effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Reports directly to designated assistant supervisor/supervisor Works under the supervision of a Licensed Medical Technologist
Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Technology, or
Bachelor's degree with completion of an Advanced Certificate in Clinical/Medical Laboratory Technology, or
An equivalent combination of education and experience ASCP certification desired
Must be license eligible to practice as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist in the State of New York
