Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY:

This time as reported (TAR) position will be supervised by the laboratory supervisor and the principle investigator. The technologist performs technical assignments, which are basic to moderate in complexity. (S)he is responsible for timely and accurate analysis of research samples on automated coagulation analyzers. Responsibilities include specimen identification and collection i n the clinical coagulation laboratory, specimen handling and processing, coagulation testing, data collection, and documentation. Candidates must be detail oriented, able to work independently and possess strong organizational skills . (S)he is also responsible for routine maintenance of instruments/equipment , routine calibrations and quality control , and adherence to all laboratory safety po l icies . The technologist is not responsible for any diagnostic testing but is responsible for the handling of specimens and gathering relevant clinical information . (S)he is r e sponsible for daily and weekly tasks related to basic laboratory maintenance. (S)he is also responsible for quality control/assurance for specimen and data collection.

SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION RECEIVED:

Med. Tech. II reports directly to the laboratory superv i sor . Generally works closely with other experienced members of both research and clinical laboratories . Some independence with sample collection and record keeping is essential.

MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT USED:

Centrifuges , freezers, automated coagulation analyzers, and associated computers and software.

RQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Requires BS degree in laboratory science and NYS license as a Medical Technologist plus one year or relevant Clinical laboratory experience.

PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:

Hematology and/or coagulation laboratory testing knowledge.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collects and processes samples , and maintains database . (15 % )

  • Performs maintenance, quality control, cal i brations , and sample analysis . (60%)

  • Correspondence and training with clinical trial sponsor personnel. (15%)

  • Assisting senior l aboratory staff as needed with ongoing clinical trials. (5 % )

  • Basic laboratory maintenance and upkeep. (5 % )

  • Punctuality and good attendance record.

  • Adherence to all laboratory safety procedures.
