Medication Management Technician Specialist

GENERAL PURPOSE:
The Medication Management Technician Specialist (MMTS) is responsible for managing the operational component of the patient’s medication use process. The MMTS is a vital part of the team that strives to improve and enhance patient care by employing a whole patient approach to pharmaceutical care. The MMTS will consider the barriers to care that prevent patients from achieving optimal care including, but not limited to, benefits investigations, ability to follow complicated drug regimens, transportation issues, socio-economic concerns, language barriers, and patient’s support system. The MMTS will strive to overcome these barriers providing the patient with the tools necessary to adhere to the optimal drug regimen for their condition(s). The MMTS will support the dispensing pharmacies remotely by helping manage queues, proactively managing refills, balancing workloads, triaging phone calls, and providing billing support. They will also support the dispensing pharmacies on-site as needed.
The MMTS will be the link between the patient, pharmacists, insurance, and clinical staff to ensure coordinated and optimal patient care. Daily tasks will be completed independently and prioritized based on the patient and pharmacist needs. Duties of this position require proper judgement, critical thinking, sensitivity and strict adherence to the Strong Memorial Hospital policy on confidentiality and the protection of Protected Health Information.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Enroll patients in Medication Management Program. Communicate with patients and providers the superior patient care and improved outcomes that UR Pharmacies can provide employing tools including Compass Rose, Willow Ambulatory, and EPIC utilizing a team-based approach focusing on the comprehensive needs of the patient. Identify patients that require more intensive support such as adherence packaging and establish this service.
Communicate with patients to coordinate the filling and delivery of medications. Establish what the patient needs refilled, including identifying PRN medications and therapies that may have been missed. Coordinate payment and delivery options for the patent giving them a superior experience.
Support UR Ambulatory Pharmacies remotely: Help the onsite team by managing queues, triaging phone calls, performing prescription data entry, following up on refill requests, prior authorization requests, billing issues, and other functions that can be successfully accomplished remotely allowing our onsite team to focus on the patients in person.
Support UR Ambulatory Pharmacies onsite: Knowing the continuum of care that our pharmacies provide is essential, and by spending time performing the onsite functions of our technician team, the MMTS will be better able to support our pharmacies and care for our patients.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Associates degree in a medical or related field preferred
Minimum of 3 years of experience in a medical field related customer service role required,
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite,
Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) required within 1 year of hire date
