Responsibilities
Position Summary:
Functions as a professional member of the Department of Psychiatry's Rochester Community Mobile Crisis Team (RCMCT) serving complex mentally ill patients in crisis in a variety of settings across Monroe County. Provides professional clinical services to patients and families in the community. Collaborates with hospital and other community institutions and groups relative to the psychosocial needs of the patient and family. Educates the community through formal presentations regarding access and utilization of the RCMCT.
Responsibilities:
Under general direction and with considerable latitude for independent judgement: Responsible for clinical intake, assessment, planning and carrying out of psychiatric crisis intervention in the community.
Provides clinical leadership to team in field. Exercises ingenuity and considerable independent judgment with respect to assessment and treatment of psychiatric patients in the field.
Answers Mobile Crisis Call Center phone line in a timely manner, collects a brief history and determines based on the initial assessment if the caller is at risk for harm to self and others.
Follows designated work flows outlined in the Crisis Call Manual to provide each caller with the appropriate level of care.
Provides supervision and direction to Life Line when RCMCT services are requested.
Promotes and ensures continued staff education around multicultural factors which affect care and treatment of patients.
Attends weekly team building meeting.
Shares responsibility of record keeping and documentation.
Responsible for follow-up contact with Therapists and Physicians. Responsible for decision-making regarding appropriate referrals.
Participates in education and training to promote professional growth and development. Functions as trainer for other RCMCT staff.
Assists RCMCT Coordinator with educational efforts, teaching in community, staff scheduling, etc.
Participates in all Quality Improvement activities.
Maintains current knowledge of mental hygiene law and its usage.
Qualifications:
Master's degree from a Counsel for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP) accredited program with major course work in mental health counseling. Requires NYS licensure as a mental health practitioner (e.g., Mental Health Counselor, Creative Arts Therapist) or limited permit eligible. If licensure has not been obtained upon employment, the individual has 36 months to obtain the NYS license.
