Neonatal Intensive Care - Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant

Responsibilities

A unique opportunity to join the NICU APP team as a PNP, NNP or PA. As part of a growing and dynamic team, you will provide coverage the Level IV Regional Perinatal Center with a busy delivery service, as well as an opportunity to provide coverage in regional Level I and Level II newborn /special care nurseries.

  • Mix of acuity available including well newborn as well as specialty services such as Pediatric Surgery, ECMO, and Small Baby Program

  • Active teaching hospital with daily educational opportunities

  • Busy delivery service with APP attendance at high risk deliveries

  • Opportunity for credentialing and shift coverage in regional Level I and Level II newborn /special care nurseries.

  • Schedule flexibility available

  • 24/7 in-house Neonatologist coverage at Level IV NICU

  • Extensive orientation program offered.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Care for neonates in collaboration with Attending Neonatologists, other APPs and Residents while maintaining a high level of autonomy to achieve desired patient outcomes

  2. Completes daily patient evaluations and assessments. Documents pertinent findings in patient record.

  3. Orders and interprets radiographic, laboratory and other diagnostic tests

  4. Obtain medical history and performs comprehensive physical examinations.

  5. Instructs and counsels patients and families in collaboration with other health team members.

  6. Performs routine procedures and emergency procedures.

  7. Umbilical line placement (UA/UV)

  8. Endotracheal intubation

  9. Central line placement

  10. Lumbar Puncture

  11. Thoracentesis

  12. Circumcision

  13. Delivery room stabilization and management of neonates.

  14. Serves as consultant to the birth center and newborn nursery covering provider. Covers care of well newborns as needed.

  15. Writes medication and other medical orders.

  16. Coordination and management of discharges from the NICU in conjunction with Care Coordinators and Attending Neonatologist.

  17. Provide education for NP and PA students, APP Fellows and residents on rotation in the NICU.

  18. Identifies and participates in research and quality assurance activities, as needed.

  19. Other duties as assigned.

Previous experience in a health care setting preferred. Clinical competence in NICU and delivery room stabilization preferred.

Qualifications

Nurse Practitioner

Require a Master’s degree (or pending) as a Nurse Practitioner, an active New York State Registered Nurse license in good standing, an active/pending New York State Nurse Practitioner licensure in good standing and current/pending national certification as an Nurse Practitioner.

Physician Assistant

Requires completion (or pending) of an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant program, an active/pending New York State Physician Assistant licensure in good standing and current/pending national certification as a Physician Assistant by the NCCPA ( National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants)

NPs and PAs will demonstrate clinical competence, superior verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal effectiveness and customer relations skills, computer competence and must have an active desire to learn. The APP will participate in the education of learners (students and new employees), using clinical learning experiences, knowledge sharing and skill training.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $44.71 - $67.07

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
