Ophthalmic Imaging Specialist

Provides advanced imaging services to Department of Ophthalmology and Flaum Eye Institute at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Acts as a primary clinical resource to Faculty, Residents and Fellows by performing diagnostic and imaging functions which aid in the diagnoses and management of ocular disease. Monitors and ensures that all imaging functions are completed in an accurate, efficient, and customer-centered manner within the clinical practice. Works in close cooperation with the Sr. Associate of Research and Clinical Imaging, this position has significant latitude for exercise of independent judgment. Supports all missions including clinical, research, and educational initiatives.




Equipment used to perform clinical and research imaging including fluorescein and ICG angiography, fundus photography, anterior and posterior segment OCT, slit lamp and external photography, fundus auto-fluorescence, videography


  1. Ophthalmic Imaging: Proficient and precepting others with: OCT (MAC, RNFL, ANT Seg); HRT/Confocal Imaging; Fundus Photography; Fluorescein Angiography; Retcam / Handheld Fundus Photography (Operating room imaging); External/Oculo-facial Plastics Photography; Slitlamp & Gonio Photography; Ultra Wide Field Fundus Imaging; AutoFluorescence Imaging; Indocyanine Green Angiography; Specular Microscopy; Videography and Video editing; Ultrasound biomicrography.

  2. Ophthalmic Diagnostic Testing: Provides back up to; Visual Fields: Humphrey & Goldmann; Corneal Topography; Corneal Pachymetry; Potential Acuity Meter/Laser Interferometery; Ocular Biometry (IOL Master).

  3. Human Studies: Acquires study certification and completes yearly requirements for maintaining study certification. Disseminates new study information in order to assist other team members with acquiring their certifications. Ensures equipment is properly enrolled into studies and updated as required. Works with Study Centers to identify and address issues related to submission of study data.

  4. Non-Human Studies: Acquires study certification and completes yearly requirements for access to animal research and vivarium. Provides imaging support for our research staff and physicians. Sets up and operates various pieces of diagnostic equipment as needed for the various creatures. Cleans and resets the equipment appropriately so it is ready for regular use. Attends training courses and gathers working knowledge of new technology used primarily with non-human imaging. Provides guidance and coverage to help other interested team members to become involved with animal research.


Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Photography or related field and 2-3 years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Certified Retinal Angiographer (CRA) and Certified Optical Coherence Tomography Technician (OCT-C).

Pay Range

Pay Range: $ 23.94 - $ 33.51 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
