Responsibilities

The Surgery Scheduling Specia l ist performs surge r y scheduling functions in a high volume fully computer i zed environment . Acts as a professional liaison for staff, other hospital personnel, medical staff , and physician's offices . Posit i on requires utilization of clinical knowledge to schedule appropr i ate procedures/surgeries per provider's orders . The Surgical Scheduler must schedule outpatient and inpat i ent procedures consistent with the patient's diagnosis and procedure request . Also requ i res strong customer service skills with patients, employees, and the public in addition : typing, exper i ence us i ng computer i ze d documentation systems, and problem solving . The Surgical Scheduler must be able to respond to both written and oral correspondence regarding scheduling changes/cancellations in a timely, accurate manner. Individual must be organized, and be able to manage demanding workload with accuracy

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Schedule su r geries based on surg e ons' schedules and available dates . Schedule w i th appropriate provider and time/location slot, utilizing appropr i ate scheduling codes.

  • Sc h edule pos t -surgica l appo in tments with doctors and necessary tests Wal k patients and famil i es through instructions about "things t o do " before and after surge r ies

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • M i nimum of a High School Diploma and 1-3 years of experience in healthcare, or equivalent combination of educat i on and exper i ence.

  • Familiarity with EMR system.

    QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must demonstrate consistent professional conduct and meticulous attention to detail.

  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills with patients, staff, and other healthcare professionals .
