GENERAL PURPOSE:

The position manages and supports global health program and partnership activities for Department of Neurology (Neuro) [50% time] and the Department of Pediatrics (PEDS) [50% time] overseeing and ensuring the department-specific goals align with larger organizational goals for institutional global engagement. This position reports to the Director of Global Engagement within the Office for Global Engagement and works closely with the leadership, chairs, faculty, and staff of Pediatrics, and Neurology to ensure that University activities abroad are conducted efficiently, effectively, and appropriately.

This position will provide oversight, guidance, and support related to the development and management of global health programs and initiatives for the above-mentioned departments under the direction of the Director for Global Engagement. Guided by the departmental program goals and objectives, the person in this position will liaise and build relationships with external partner institutions and entities, as well as internally with faculty and staff in DOM and Flaum and with other campus stakeholders charged with international program management and research administration.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Project & Program Management

  • Provide operational and administrative support for existing as well as new programs and projects operating abroad initiated by DOM, Flaum, Pediatrics, or Neurology, including but not limited to collaborative research projects, educational programs, and exchanges for faculty, staff, and students. This includes arranging and managing regular check-ins with PIs and other operational leaders at UR, including Global, OGC, HR, etc.; documenting institutional work and actions (e.g., institutional agreements, mechanisms for on-site purchases, and other operational matters in-country, etc.), and managing updates related to various operational and logistical aspects of University engagement in locations of long-term research activity.

  • Identify and manage project scope and communicate effectively with relevant stakeholders regarding the state and needs of particular projects.

  • Coordinate closely with the departments, research administration, and other functional and professional offices (counsel, HR, finance, research administration, etc.) across the institution to meet program/project needs in line with institutional policies and protocols for engagement.

  • Coordinate and manage activities between multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring that larger program and institutional goals are met.

  • Ensure internal and external compliance matters related to programs and projects stay on schedule, on topic, and within institutional allocated budgets; troubleshoot issues and elevate/communicate as needed to ensure success and compliance.

Partnership Engagement & Management

  • Provide oversight as well as development and implementation guidance for the development memoranda of understanding (MOUs), various non-grant funded project addenda, and project/program agreements, ensuring alignment with institutional review processes, policies, and protocols.

  • Support engagement and negotiations with partner institutions and entities abroad, ensuring program, department, and institutional goals are met.

  • Engage department faculty and senior leaders and assists them with international collaboration- from strategizing and planning to maintaining relationships. Attend meetings with partners and in-country teams as needed to ensure success (typically conducted virtually).

  • Identify and implement process improvements specific to particular programs or partnerships; troubleshoot potential challenges that could negatively affect the project or program.

  • Manage the signing and retention of all international agreements according to institutional policy and utilize dedicated electronic systems which align with institutional standards for data management.

  • Document all international engagement and partnership activity reported in Salesforce and develop reports quarterly or as needed by the institution and/or departments.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred. 5 years applicable experience required. Required knowledge, skills and abilities: Demonstrated expertise in program management, process development and implementation; Excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as excellent interpersonal skills required; Creative problem solving and strong intercultural communication skills with documented experience social media marketing; Ability to offer excellent customer services to a diverse group of internal and external constituents; Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively; Ability to work well under pressure and take initiative; Ability to manage details efficiently on multiple concurrent projects; Ability to work independently and as a team member; Understanding of and commitment to higher education; Knowledge of statistical software, data management systems, and visualization platforms is a plus; Domestic and international travel required.
