Responsibilities

Job Summary:

Direct the planning, implementation, coordination, operation and evaluation of University Retirement Program and Executive Benefit Plans as part of the University’s strategic planning. Responsible for providing and maintaining policies and procedures for the University benefit programs. Primary responsibility for the overall management of their applicable area. Responsible for the Benefit Plan content contained in informational sessions, web pages, policies and manuals with assistance of Human Resources Managers and Representatives. Interact with senior leadership and employees to increase awareness and participation of programs, events and activities. Provide professional direction to staff on projects. Devise methods for gathering information, analyzing and interpreting data; prepare reports and make recommendations. Maintain a working knowledge of retirement and executive benefit program issues by reviewing literature and abstracts and attending pertinent meetings and seminars. Prepares reporting and presentations for multiple audiences. Review and analyze program effectiveness, track performance, ROI, and outcomes. Responsible for cross-functional evaluation across various programs to stratify outcomes.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Assists Associate Director with strategic oversight, evaluation of recommendations for improvements in benefits, policies and procedures, based upon benchmarking, regulation changes and employees’ needs/request. Ensure programs are market-competitive and aligned with organizational and people strategies. Oversee benefit plans, policies, programs, and processes; including, administration, communication, and training.

  • Responsible for all facets of vendor management including contract review/renewal, regular evaluation of programs and services offered, as well as pricing, and customer service. Make recommendations to leadership, as appropriate, for change. Monitor performance, identify problem areas, and assist in the development of new agreements. Assist in establishing metrics for baseline and on-going performance management of programs. Audits carrier remittances, records, reports and interfaces. Serve as the primary interface with audit representatives for their respective area.

  • Responsible for legal compliance through maintaining summary plan descriptions for benefits plans and programs, ensuring plan documentation is up-to-date and readily available. Ensures benefit plans and processes comply with all current federal and state regulations and requirements, including reporting, disclosures, and testing. Responsible for assistance with budget creation, programmatic impact on budgets, and financial forecasting related to plan administration.

  • Develop and manage a team of highly skilled and motivated employees; focused on the delivery of quality and value-added services, and allocate responsibilities and work processes across the function. Conduct performance assessments, and foster a positive team environment among staff. Pursue professional growth by attending industry conferences, participating in webinars, seminars, as well as participating in professional organizations.

  • Communicate and promote benefit programs to University faculty, staff and retirees. Conduct instructional and informational sessions with University Leadership, including, but not limited to Deans, Department Heads, supervisors, faculty, staff and retirees on matters relating to the communication, education, application and/or interpretation of the University benefit plans.

  • Actively serve on committees and task forces.

  • Perform other related duties as needed.

    Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree with major course work in a human resources, health care, financial, business or related field; 4-5 years’ experience leading a comprehensive benefit program with emphasis in demonstrable experience in managing, designing and communicating benefit programs; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
