The Project Director for Affiliate Legacy Systems plans and directs project management and high-level technical aspects related to the legacy clinical, administrative and revenue cycle management system initiatives. Oversees day-to-day IT operations, production control, and administrative functions of the legacy applications. Partners with the ISD Director and a team of application programmers and analysts who use proprietary tools to deliver system enhancements, efficiency to business processes and support end user productivity, satisfaction, and collaboration. Provides project management and direction for major upgrades, additions, or changes with legacy systems.


  • Provides information systems analysis and technical expertise required to support the legacy management applications. Conducts feasibilities, prepares analyses and presents recommendations to ISD management and Hospital Leadership

  • Provides oversight, guidance, and technical direction for the legacy Applications teams and analysts. Allocates and assigns personnel and technical resources to meet business priorities from Legacy Applications.

  • Manages all phases of assigned projects. Formulates and prepares project budgets, detailed plans, dependencies, dates and timeframes, resource requirements, milestones, and deliverables. Monitors progress of project activities and insures all critical implementation criteria are met and provides status reports.

  • Coordinates the processes and resources required to develop, implement, and maintain the projects and plans related to the legacy systems and related third party applications. Coordinates functions and activities related to information systems technologies with other departments and external sources.

  • Demonstrates excellent technical skills and acts as a resource for staff learning and problem resolution specific to system technologies. Attends training and educational activities to maintain expertise in rapidly changing environment and utilizes this information to assure effective and efficient technology decisions.

  • Maintains continued direct relationships with URMC and Affiliate departmental liaisons and knowledge of the end users. Uses knowledge and feedback gained from these relationships to enhance the implementation, education, and technology activities of the system.

  • Directs and guides the activities of assigned staff and partners with ISD leadership around staffing and resource requirements.

  • Participates on departmental, hospital, faculty, and medical center committees.

  • Utilizes effective communication and problem-solving skills to meet customer needs. Creates structure that promotes teamwork, collaboration, and a positive environment.

  • Directs, designs, coordinates, and oversees project return on investment analysis and maintains efficient cost-effective deployment of information systems.

  • Other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Sciences or equivalent required; Graduate Degree preferred.

  • 4-5 years management level experience in a financial services setting including automated systems required ; Or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.

  • At least 4 years of clinical or administrative experience in a health care setting required.

  • Familiarity with Meaningful Use (ARRA), Quality measures for Eligible Clinicians, Quality Measures for Eligible Hospitals, MIPPS, TJC as well as HIPAA and some Billing regulations preferred;

  • Strong attention to detail, ability to develop creative solutions to complex problems and developed critical thinking skills preferred;

  • Ability to lead meetings, prioritize tasks, resolve conflicts, maintain issues lists and work to a project plan preferred;

  • Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to follow up and follow through with minimal direction preferred;

  • Detail-oriented and a knack for probing for information to fully understand the underlying needs of the organization and user community preferred.

  • Documented Legacy System(s) Competency

  • Preliminary work for Epic certification in related application preferred
