Responsibilities

The University of Rochester Medical Center is looking for a highly motivated individual to join our team as a Psychometrist within the Department of Neurology, Strong Epilepsy Center. The Psychometrist will work under the direction/supervision of a Board-Certified Neuropsychologist. The Psychometrist will work with patients that span a very broad age range (i.e., 4 years old through 90+ years old) who have epilepsy. Many patients will undergo neuropsychological evaluations as part of candidacy for neurosurgery to treat intractable epilepsy. Some patients will have repeat neuropsychological evaluations several months after neurosurgery. Other patients with epilepsy who do not undergo neurosurgery may undergo neuropsychological evaluations to identify cognitive difficulties to help plan for school and/or work. While the patient population primarily will be those with epilepsy, there may be opportunities periodically to see patients with other medical/neurologic conditions (e.g., brain tumor).

While the Psychometrist will work under the license of the Neuropsychologist in an outpatient medical setting, the position requires critical thinking skills, the ability to function independently as necessary, a high level of professionalism, strong interpersonal skills, and clinical training/background in psychological assessment (neuropsychology experience preferred).

This is a time-as-reported (TAR) position not to exceed 17 hours per week. A majority of the work will be done on Mondays, with completion of work (e.g., scoring tests and data entry) on Tuesdays as necessary. Please note that patients are seen at an outpatient clinic at Clinton Crossings, not at the Strong Memorial Hospital campus.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Direct patient contact involving administration of neuropsychological and psychological measures following clinical protocols.

  • Independently operate and maintain testing equipment, maintain clinical files until test administration and scoring are complete, track testing supplies, and notify supervisor when new supplies need to be ordered.

  • We are specifically looking for candidates who are highly organized, able to effectively multitask, and effectively interact with diverse patients and staff.

  • Recording and making specific behavioral observations of patient’s behavior during testing.

  • Standardized administration of neuropsychological tests, patient questionnaires, and questionnaires completed by those accompanying the patient (when applicable).

  • Scoring the administered measures and documenting scores for review by the Neuropsychologist

  • Assistance with record review as needed.

  • Temporarily maintain clinical records during the testing and scoring process.

  • Maintain active communication with the Neuropsychologist.

  • Data entry into a database.

Educational qualifications include but are not limited to:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in psychology or related field required. Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university preferred.

  • At least one year of relevant experience preferred.

  • Prior neuropsychological assessment experience preferred.

Please complete the online application in its entirety, as well as include your CV/resume and a cover letter.
