Radiologic Technologist

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Responsible for producing high quality X-ray images by conducting exams in a safe and efficient manner. Verifies and follows referring providers' orders while remaining in compliance with the Imaging Sciences departmental policies. Possesses a sound understanding of human anatomy as well as x-ray positioning and the use if immobilization devices when warranted.

Band Two (II): Competent Radiologic Technologist - With minimal supervision, demonstrates proficiency and competence in all aspects of job responsibilities and expectations, and consistently demonstrates initiative to assist in other areas of the department when the need arises. Able to work with student technologists to sign off on their required competencies while rotating through UR Imaging. Requires minimal supervision. Demonstrates consistent attention to detail when performing all imaging exams. Completes all associated paper and computer work for discharging patients with appropriate post procedure instructions. Additional duties may include working on special projects, such as new equipment evaluations and assisting in the design of areas where clinical equipment will be installed, or assignment to departmental committees. Band Two status requires a minimum of 18 months of progressively responsible professional work experience in an Imaging Sciences setting, with at least 6 months dedicated to the URMC Imaging Sciences Department.

To be eligible for advancement consideration, technologist must be in good standing. Readiness for movement in the bands is assessed by the General X-Ray manager and supervisor upon successful demonstration of knowledge and task proficiency as defined in the career ladder. Movement to a higher band is based on departmental need requires final approval from the Imaging Sciences Clinical Director of Operations in collaboration with Human Resources.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Prepares room and patient per order, properly sets up equipment, position patients, and determine proper exposure factors in order to produce a high quality image.

  2. Utilizes electronic patient information systems to verify patient name, date, appropriate exam, and any special exam specific comments from the provider. Understands and practices the Dual patient identifier procedure.

  3. Produces a diagnostic, high quality image for interpretation by the Radiologist.

  4. Maintains accurate patient record keeping by properly identifying images and assuring images are sent to the PACS system correctly.

  5. Transfers patients to and from imaging tables using assistive devices such as ARJO lift, transfer boards, hover mats.

  6. Maintains appropriate supplies in the x-ray rooms.

  7. Completes and bills for studies accurately.

  8. At an advanced level, may train new employees or lead day to day work activities. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Completion of formal training in an approved School of Radiologic Technology required. Minimum of 18 months of progressively responsible professional work experience in an Imaging Sciences setting, with at least 6 months dedicated to the URMC Imaging Sciences Department required. Maintains current NYS licensure and ARRT certification with CE credits as required.
