The main role of the Research Assistant Professor is to independently lead research projects related to the functional characterization of normal and abnormal murine as well as human hematopoietic progenitors and their microenvironment. Current areas of investigation include characterizations of malignant and normal hematopoietic stem and progenitor populations, characterizations of bone microenvironmental populations , the elucidation of molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying leukemic stem cell self-renewal, cell fate determination and differentiation, crosstalk of normal and malignant populations with the bone marrow microenvironment.
Skills required include use of >12 color flow cytometry to monitor and sort HSC and blood cell, lentiviral and retroviral infection of murine and human cell lines and primary cell populations, murine bone marrow transplantation assays, methylcellulose CFU assays, RNA transcription profiling, molecular cloning, qRT–PCR, ELISA.
The successful applicant is expected to lead research projects, coordinate research plans, conduct independent research proposals, mentor students, fellows, and assistants, and actively participate in article writing and grant application.
Candidates must have a Ph.D., D.D.S./Ph.D., M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent degree with more than 2-3 years of postdoctoral research experience in biomedical sciences.
