Research Data Engineer IV

GENERAL PURPOSE:
As a software developer for the OMEGA cryogenic implosion optimization program, the Software Engineer will build and administer software infrastructure for analyzing and visualizing OMEGA simulation and experimental data, integrating heterogenous data sources, sharing code, and establishing efficient workflows and supports development of new statistical and machine-learning algorithms for analyzing, predicting and designing high performance cryogenic implosions on OMEGA. OMEGA is the lead facility in the world for cryogenic laser direct-drive nuclear fusion experiments. The cryogenic optimization program on OMEGA seeks to optimize and understand implosion experiments on OMEGA in order to credibly scale to ignition and large energy gains on future facilities.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop and maintain scientific visualization software for OMEGA cryogenic implosion experimental and simulation results
Develop and maintain software to analyze OMEGA cryogenic implosion experimental data
Develop and maintain software to analyze OMEGA cryogenic implosion simulation data
Develop and maintain statistical and machine learning software designed to predict and design high performance OMEGA cryogenic implosions
Offers training and onboarding for developed software for collaborators on OMEGA
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree Computer Science or similar discipline required
2 years of experience in technology and data intensive roles and environments or equivalent combination of education and experience required
Programming experience and deep knowledge of Python, including testing and documentation required
Experience with Version Control solutions (e.g. Git) preferred
Experience with Linux, SOL and MATLAB preferred
Experience with PEP 484 Type Hinting required preferred
Deep neural networks or other machine learning techniques preferred
Web Development and scientific visualization preferred
U.S. Citizen or P.R. required

Pay Range
Pay Range: $107,200 - $160,800 Annually
The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
