The social worker assigned to the Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP) functions as a primary evaluator and Social Worker as dictated by the needs of patients present in CPEP. Primary Evaluator functions include completion of the social work psychosocial risk evaluation and psychiatric evaluation. The social worker also provides crisis intervention and ensures continuity of care between CPEP and inpatient or outpatient providers, resource consultation and routine discharge planning for patients they evaluate. The social worker function is assigned when nonsocial work evaluators identify complex discharge needs for a patient they are evaluating. Social work functions include: identification and intervention around individual and systemic barriers to discharge; collaboration with other agencies, services, community providers as needed towards achieving discharge; notification and involvement of administrative personnel as needed to achieve a safe discharge.
The social worker that occupies this position must have a MSW from an accredited social work graduate program. They must meet the qualifications to be a Licensed Social Worker within eighteen months of employment.
