The social worker is responsible for providing social work services to a patient care unit in instances when the unit's assigned social worker is unavailable for a significant period of time. These instances may include but are not limited to: extended absence due to disability or sick leave; vacancy due to resignation and prior to hiring of a replacement. The services provided by the social worker will be the essential services provided by the social worker of the patient care unit for whom this social worker is providing coverage.
Specific Responsibilities
Administrative
Participates in Social Work Division tasks and committees as assigned to develop policies, procedures, information and recommendations for the social work program.
Participates in Social Work Division and social work unit staff meetings.
Participates in social work supervision/consultation about his/her work in accordance with plan developed with supervisor.
Participates in required activities of the Social Work Division and hospital, including but not limited to, timely completion of statistical reports/forms, timesheets and other hospital or division forms; mandatory in-service training programs and University Health Service reviews.
Clinical
Performs essential social work activities described in the job description of the social worker for whom this social worker is providing coverage.
Participates in relevant training and educational opportunities designed to enhance knowledge and skills in protective work.
Develops and maintains knowledge of hospital and community resources relevant to the needs of Strong Memorial Hospital patients and their families.
Documents all activities in the patient's medical chart in accordance with Social Work Division policy and procedure.
Provides coverage services as requested during the absence of co-workers.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Professional Accountability, Supervision and Evaluation
Supervision/Consultation
General oversight of the social worker's professional performance is provided by the assigned Social Work supervisor.
Accountability
The social worker is accountable administratively and clinically to the designated supervisor for the provision of social work services in accordance with social work policies, procedures and standards of conduct. The float social worker's job performance must conform to the expectations set forth in this position description and that of the area for which the float social worker is providing coverage.
The social worker is accountable to the social work supervisor for social work tasks in the clinical area for which the social worker is providing coverage.
The social worker is accountable to the Medical Director of the area in which coverage is being provided for providing social work services in accordance with the policies and procedures of that clinical unit.
Evaluation
Social Work evaluations are conducted by the SW supervisor at the end of the first six months of employment and at least annually thereafter. Salary and promotional recommendations are made by the Director of Social Work in accordance with guidelines established by the Social Work Division, Strong Memorial Hospital and the University of Rochester.
Position Qualifications
The social worker must have an MSW from an accredited social work graduate program and must obtain New York State Certification (LMSW) within eighteen months of employment. Experience is preferred.

Pay Range
Pay Range: $ 57,595 - $ 80,600 Annually
The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
