Responsibilities

General Description

The Social Worker who occupies this position provides mental health services and therapy interventions to children and adolescents admitted to unit 4-9000, and their families. They will have an understanding of psychosocial risk factors for incorporation in the treatment plan.

Under general direction and with considerable latitude for independent judgment, conducts individual, family, and group therapy for children & adolescents on an acute inpatient unit. The therapist will have some flexibility in types of group provided, based on their own areas of interest and expertise

They functins as a primary therapist, providing comprehensive mental health services to children, adolescents and families on an acute inpatient psychiatric unit. This entails group, individual, and family therapy in a fast paced, team-oriented environment. The social worker maintains relationships with community and outpatient providers to ensure continuity of care for patients discharged from inpatient.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Serves as a primary therapist to patients on the Rapid Stabilization Pathway, providing an intensive therapeutic intervention to patients and families in a 3-4-day admission. This may include beginning evaluation / treatment with patients while they are still in the Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program.

  • Provides direct clinical services to assigned patients, including individual, family and/or group therapy. Assesses successful completion of therapeutic goals and coordinates to plan discharges accordingly. Participates collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team to provide coordinated care. Meets minimum target for clinical productivity set by service director.

  • Documents treatment in patients’ electronic medical record in compliance with Program, Department and Hospital regulations Initiates and/or facilitates completion of safety plan with patient/family prior to discharge. Completion of protective referrals as indicated and ensures that procedures are followed.

  • Collaborates with other professionals both internal and external throughout patient care activities. Mobilizes family and natural support networks when clinically indicated. Establishes and regularly maintains cooperative working relationships with community and health care agencies, as well as professional and administrative staff of the Medical Center and University.

  • Attends Social Work Division and Department Staff meetings, as required. Participates in activities of the Social Work Division including, but not limited to timely completion of time reporting and other Hospital or Division forms; Hospital and Division mandatory in-service training programs and UHS reviews.

  • Subscribes to the Departmental goal of creating a culturally competent environment by treating patient, families, trainees, and co-workers in a sensitive manner with appropriate attention to cultural differences. Participates in available cultural competence events and training appropriate to job duties

  • May provide coverage and back-up as needed during the absence of co-workers in the inpatient therapy services.

Other duties, as requested and assigned.

Position Qualifications

  • Master's degree from an accredited school of social work (CSWE) required

Preferred:

  • Experience working in clinical setting with children / adolescents and families, including group therapy.

  • Experience with acute services (inpatient, partial hospital, intensive outpatient, crisis services) strongly preferred.

  • Candidates must be able to work in a fast paced, team-oriented environment.

  • Knowledge about behavioral health assessments/evaluations and evidenced based interventions;

  • Commitment to and routine demonstration of biopsychosocial approach to care of individuals and families;

  • Dedication to delivering a team-based integrated model of care.

  • Demonstrates cultural humility and anti-racism values and works toward ensuring all patients feel welcome.

Required:

Licensure as a social worker, as defined by the State Board for Social Work, State Education Department, Division of Professional Licensing Services is required. If licensure has not been obtained upon employment, the individual has 18 months within which to obtain it, unless duties will be performed under OMH then minimum of a limited permit (not to exceed 1 year) or NYS Licensure will be required upon employment start.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $ 57,595 - $ 80,600 Annually

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
